After turning 18 last March 12, Andrea Brillantes shared how she ended up doing grand debut-themed photo shoots even without actually having a grand celebration that usually accompanies most celebrity debutantes.

“Viewer talaga ako ng ABS-CBN, pinanuod ko lahat ng debut, yung debut ni ate Kath (Bernardo), ni ate Julia (Barretto), lahat sila talagang pinapalabas sa TV ang mga debut nila and since wala tayong ganun and wala talaga akong balak magka-debut, nag-isip lang ako ng pasabog para maalala ng mga tao na mag-e-e18 na ako. Kasi hindi ko alam sa Philippines bakit napakahalaga ang pagiging 18 sa isang babae para sa atin dito sa showbiz world natin.

“Sabi ko bawi na lang ako sa photo shoots. Pero yung iba kong photo shoot like for Metro and Mega, actually hindi ko yun plinano kaya sobra kong nagpapasalamat sa management kasi sobra kong naramdaman yung support nila sa pag-de-debut ko. As in nag-reach out sila sa akin kung ano ba yung gusto ko. Sa totoo lang, hindi talaga ako ma-debut na tao, hindi ako ma-party na tao, pero binigyan nila ako ng covers. Sobra ako nagpapasalamat sa kanila. Pina-feel nila sa akin yung pagiging isang ganap na debutante,” she said during the Huwag Kang Mangamba mediacon held last March 15.

Last month, Andrea surprised netizens when she shared photos showing her in sexier poses. But the Huwag Kang Mangamba star said this does not automatically mean she is ready to take on sexier or more mature roles onscreen.

“Hindi pa po ako siguro ready for more mature roles. Yung nakita niyo na photo shoot, since wala akong debut, wala akong celebration, nag-isip lang ako. Para sa akin hindi naman siya sexy pero may story naman kung bakit ako nag-red lipstick. Kasi si mama lagi akong nagtatanong dati, ‘Kelan ako puwede mag-red lipstick Ma?’ tapos ang binigay niya sa aking age ay 18 so ito ang age na puwede na ako mag-red lipstick. Of course sa ibang trabaho ko kailangan pero bilang me as Blythe puwede na. Pero hindi pa ako puwede sa matured and sexy roles. Siguro level up. Kasi kilala ako ng mga tao bilang sweet girl, ganyan. Mas matapang na siguro ako, mas woman na, ganun. Pero sa totoo lang hindi ko pa kayang matulog mag-isa eh (laughs). Nakakaloka,” she explained.

During her younger years, Andrea admitted she was not as confident as she is now.

“Dati kasi mga 12 or 13 ako, may pagka people pleaser ako kasi lumaki ako na binu-bully sa school. Never talaga ako nagka-friends and yung mom ko favorite yung kuya ko tapos yung dad ko favorite ang ate ko tapos lagi kong nararamdaman na favorite lang ako dahil ako yung artista, parang ako yung nag-wo-work for my family.

“Ngayon natutunan ko na hindi lahat ng tao importante. Kasi kapag inisip mo lahat paano ka na mabubuhay para sa sarili mo? Na bago mo mahalin ang iba dapat mahalin mo ang sarili mo. Ako napakatagal, ilang taon para mahalin ko ang sarili ko, ilang taon para masabi ko na maganda ako kasi sobra akong insecure. Wala akong confidence talaga. Zero talaga. Pero naisip ko kasi, ito yung katawan na binigay sa akin, ito yung buhay na binigay sa akin, ang pangalan na binigay sa akin at napakasuwerte ko na buhay ako ngayon,” she said.
