As a loving and devoted mom, Sunshine Cruz will never back down from defending her daughters—Angelina, Samantha, and Chesca—from bashers online. Just recently, the celebrity mom posted on Instagram, challenging an online bully to reveal themselves before hurling accusations about Angelina’s alleged lack of school work.
She wrote, “If this is indeed true, reveal yourself. I know how hard working my daughter is when it comes to school. She won’t be a dean’s lister for nothing. Be proud of other people’s achievements and stop bringing them down.”
When it comes to her kids, Sunshine said she has always made sure they can come to her for help.
“I treat them as friends. But there are times that I would tell them, lalo na kapag pinapagalitan ko or meron akong sinasabi, you have to take me seriously as your mom. Pero pag nagbibiruan tayo or we need to talk about crushes or things that worry you, then you treat me as a friend. Kasi sabi ko nga, kesa sa mga kaibigan kayo magsabi, nandito ako and of course I only want what’s best for the three of you. So mas magandang sa akin niyo sabihin kasi whatever ang advice na ibibigay ko sa inyo will be for the best of my children and alam ko na makakabuti sa kanila kasi wala naman talagang mom na gustong mapasama ang anak. So nandun ang love and protection every time that I would advise things to them,” she explained.
Even when it comes to love matters, Shine said her daughters go to her for advice.
“Sinusunod nila ako. Sinasabi ko naman sa kanila talaga na hindi porke’t niligawan kayo, kailangan crush niyo na rin. Hindi porke’t niligawan kayo sasagutin niyo na. Sabi ko, ‘Mag-ingat kayo sa pagpili ninyo. Hindi naman minamadali yan eh. Ako nga ilang taon na, 43 years old na di ba?’ So parang minsan hindi mo alam, akala mo yun na yung love of your life pero hindi pa pala. So I always remind them na it’s better to enjoy yourself, ang babata niyo pa. Enjoy with friends. And kapag dumating yan kilalanin niyo muna. Huwag kayo magmadali,” she said.
After raising her kids as a single mom for more than seven years, Shine talked about balancing work and her household.
“It is very difficult to be a single mom tapos nagtatrabaho pa ako. But thank God na nakikinig naman sa akin ang mga anak ko. They respect me and they support me and they know na kung ano mang trabaho ang ginagawa ko, para rin naman sa kanila kasi yun. So I’m just blessed to have three girls na nakikinig at nagrerespeto sa kung ano man ang sinsasabi ko for them. So as woman, you have to fight for your right and if you think na nababastos kayo, ilaban ninyo para magtanda at para din maging aral sa iba na ang kababaihan hindi dapat binabastos. Meron tayong mga kapatid at magulang na babae. So sana magkaroon ng respeto ang mga kalalakihan lalo na sa social media,” she said.
During the lockdown last year, Shine admits she learned a lot of new things about her teen daughters.
“I didn’t know that Sam can cook. Ang galing niya mag-bake. So she’s the one teaching us how to bake and marami rin akong natutunang lutuin for them. So that is one thing that I learned, yun din yung nagiging bonding time namin. That I cook whatever food they want. And at the same time, nagkaroon kami ng opportunity to work out together sabay sabay kami nagiging healthy ngayon dito sa bahay. That is one thing na hindi ko kasi nagagawa before the pandemic. So now I think mas naging health conscious sila and we got closer kasi lagi kaming magkakasama so maraming mga bagay silang nakukuwento sa akin, even their crushes (laughs). Yun yung mga bagay na na-discover ko lang dahil nagka-pandemic and at the same time, I think I could say naging blessing din yun para maging mas malapit kami sa isa’t isa lalo ng mga anak ko,” she said.
