On the day of Julia Barretto's 24th birthday, photographer-to-the-stars BJ Pascual released a new musings vlog featuring the actress.
Shot during the showbiz royalty star’s birthday shoot in Zambales, Julia and BJ went on a trip down memory lane as they talked about the times they’ve spent together over the past several years.
In the same vlog, Julia opened up about dealing with her bashers who have been constantly criticizing her for as long as she can remember.
Instead of fighting back, Julia said she has learned to choose her battles and not get affected by the opinions of people who don’t matter to her.
“You know, this is like what I always say ‘cause I’m asked this question a lot. Maybe because people go through the same thing. But I always say the same thing. The older I’m getting, I’m slowly starting to realize how important it is to compartmentalize things — what matters and what doesn’t matter,” Julia said.
“So sometimes, if it’s an opinion from people who don’t have a significant role in your life, and who really don’t matter to you, who you don’t even know, I’m never gonna be affected by it. Because you don’t know me, I don’t know you, we can’t judge each other, ‘di ba? It’s just not possible,” she added.
Julia went on to say that her almost two decades of being active in the world of showbiz allowed her to learn the art of not minding what other people have to say about her.
“I think the opinions that really just matter to me are the opinions of my family, my friends, the people who are close to me, the ones who really know me. Also, you know, the older that I’m getting and the longer that I’ve been in the business — ‘cause I started out at six years old and being in the family where you know, a lot of them have been in the spotlight for so many years and growing up in the spotlight also — whether you do something good or bad, people will always have something to say. So keep going, keep doing you, and wala, may masasabi eh. Kahit ang ganda na nang nagawa mo, mayroon pa rin silang masasabi,” she stated.
When asked if she ever responds to her bashers, Julia said she does but never in a rude way and she prays for those who have done her ill instead.
“Hindi ako mapagpatol, pero ‘pag may mga nagco-cross na ng line, I will answer, but never in a bastos way. I won’t pay back bad for bad. I believe in paying good for back. Fight the good fight of faith, ‘di ba, sabi sa bible? I have. But mabibilang mo sa kamay mo. Pero very nicely. And I’m always hoping for the best for them every time I reply. It’s always like ‘I’ll pray for you tonight’ because I hope that your heart is at peace. Kasi for you to be talking to me this way, you must be going through something, ‘di ba? Kasi kung at peace ka, kung masaya ka, you’ll not talk to anybody that way — kung hindi ka bitter sa buhay mo,” Julia said.
On why she has become mature when it comes to responding to other people, Julia said she chooses not to fight back because she knows exactly what it feels like to go through the same thing.
“I kinda look at it like ‘maybe you’re not okay. Maybe there’s something they wanna improve in their lives or a change in their life na hindi pa nababago. I just don’t wanna judge also ‘cause I know what it’s like to be judged,” Julia stated.
