Simon Ibarra, thankful for his kontrabida role in ‘Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin’

Playing one of the most hated characters in the drama series Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, character actor Simon Ibarra said it is a compliment for him to be so effective in his role as the villain Caesar Augusto who makes life hard for lead actresses Jodi Sta. Maria and Iza Calzado. Simon said he does not mind when he hears feedback that audiences are angry at his role.

“Masaya. Ibig sabihin nagawa namin ng maayos ang trabaho namin at pangalawa, naasar namin sila (laughs),” he shared during the Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin finale presscon.

Not a newcomer to doing heavy roles, Simon’s acting career has already spanned more than two decades with both TV and movie work. Simon said his current role is successful because of more than just his acting.

“Siyempre masaya ako na pinagkatiwalaan nila ako sa ganyang role and then at the same time kaya masaya kasi kaya lumabas na ganyan si Caesar kasi collaboration yan sa head writer, kinausap ko siya kung ano ba yung damdamin niyan habang sinusulat niya ‘to, and then siyempre may input ako. Collaboration rin ako sa director kung ano bang magandang gawin ko. So ganun kaya lumabas si Cesar ng ganun. Salamat sa Diyos, at sa ABS-CBN na pinagkatiwalaan nila ako sa ganito,” he explained.

While working on the same set as Diamond star Maricel Soriano, Simon said he still felt nervous despite his being a veteran himself. “Yes, hindi nawawala yung kaba kasi alam naman natin kung anong klaseng kaledad yung mga artista na yan. Sila’y lahat mahusay, mga awardees na. So pinaghahandaan yugn character, pinaghahandaan yung dialogue. Pero yes lagi akong may kaba,” he said.

With the series ending its run in two weeks, Simon shared what audiences can expect from his unpredictable villain role. “Marami pang pasabog na gagawin si Cesar (laughs). Palagay ko, mas madadagdagan yung inis niyo sa kanya kasi ginugulo niya talaga yung buhay nung dalawang lead character, yung dalawang pamilya. So abangan niyo po. Madami pa siyang gagawin na kalokohan,” he added.
