It has been 20 years since Dimples Romana lost her father, Joel Romana.
Yet losing him feels like it was just yesterday, the actress said in an Instagram post she published this Friday, February 5.
"February 5 pala today... 20 years ago, my Papa, my confidant and number 1 fan, was called back by the Father to be in heaven with Him," she wrote.
"Kaninang madaling araw pa ako hindi mapakali. Hanggang pagdating ko dito sa set para bang may lungkot ako sa puso kong I can’t quite place. I had a hard time sleeping, as if I had forgotten something I’m supposed to remember. And I did," she said. "I’m sorry Papa. I’ve been so preoccupied with everything else, I had forgotten today."
Dimples went on to share how much she misses her late father.
"I hope you know how I miss having you around, hearing your quiet laugh and seeing your kind face. Each time a blessing lands on me and my family, I think of you. How you instilled in us the value of sharing and of giving. Of giving 'til it hurts, of sharing 'til there’s only nearly enough left and sometimes even less. For you have always believed that in giving we truly receive even more. And when we speak only of kindness and of compassion towards others, that’s when we are truly and abundantly blessed," she said.
Expressing her love for her dad, Dimples said: "I love you Papa. I hope you’re eating all the good stuff up there. Be with us always. Isang yakap sa pinakamabuti, pinakamapagbigay, mapagparaya, mapagmahal at puno ng integridad na taong kilala ko. 20 years in heaven and somehow losing you feels like it was just yesterday."
She then reminded her fans to "hug your fathers" as "life is short."
In her post remembering her dad ahead of Father's Day, Dimples revealed that she lost her father in 2001, when she was only 16 years old. As the eldest, she took the responsibility to take care of their family.
"After Papa passed away, I became the breadwinner of the family. Ate ako kaya I knew I had to take on the responsibility. I prayed every day, even until now,” she said.
“Isang bagay na naipamana ni Papa sa amin, ang ipagdasal ang lahat ng bagay. Nagpapasalamat ako dahil kahit maagang kinuha ni Lord si Papa, he has taught us all we need in life and more. A big salute to all the fathers who have sacrificed and loved their families to the best of their ability. 'Di masalita si Papa, tahimik lang s'ya, he had a quiet strength in him that made us stronger as a family, especially through my late sister Sarah’s cancer battle of four years. He was always humble and worked the hardest. Papa, I miss you. Today I will embrace you in my prayers hoping my prayers will reach you wherever you are. And to those reading this, if you still have your fathers around, pakiyakap naman sila para sa akin. Napakaswerte ninyong kasama ninyo pa sila. Advanced Happy Father’s Day,” she added.
