During his recent launch as the newest celebrity ambassador for an online shopping app, Willie Revillame revealed how he got started helping other Filipinos during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). The 60-year-old TV host said he was out of town when he first got the idea of how to help.

I just thought of giving something sa mga kababayan sa Puerto Galera. Nagpabili ako ng bigas. Siguro it’s really in your heart pag gusto mong makatulong. Lahat bawal, naka-lockdown tayo during that time. That was March 12 nung ginawa ko ‘to.

Willie also made headlines last year after he donated P5M to help jeepney drivers and the families of the four Filipinos who died in Lebanon. He described how he made sure to personally get to know some of the people he helped.

Umiikot kami ron kahit gabi. Nakikipag-usap kami and also yung 5,000 a day, imagine niyo nag-fe-Facebook ako ng almost four hours a day. And then after this, eto na. Na-lockdown ako ng more than one month and then bumalik ako after Holy Week. April 13 nag-show na ako. Napagbigyan na.”

The new Shopee ambassador shared just how thankful he was for the brand sponsorship. “During that time na kailangan na kailangan namin ng pondo na mabibigay sa kababayan, dumating from Shopee. Nabuhayan kami kasi nagbibigay sila ng prizes eh. Nung una nga medyo hindi kami nagkakaintindihan kasi iba yung ideas nila sa ideas namin. It feels so great to be part of Shopee. This is history in my life. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to myself as the new ambassador of Shopee!(laughs),” he said.

The popular TV personality also shared the advantages of being part of a popular online brand. “To be honest with you, ito yung first time ko na gagawa ng big commercial. First time in my life. So ba’t ko pinag-aralan ito? Sabi ko, ‘Puwede ko naman hindi ko gawin ‘to kasi nandito naman yung Shopee sa Tutok to Win.’ Pero proud ka eh. Dahil a big company like Shopee ang nagtiwala sa ‘yo. Ibig sabihin, there’s something in you. Which is what you call pagmamahal, pagmamahal na kasama mo ang Shopee. At ang isa pang napakaimportante, nakakatipid kami,” he added.
