After posting a recent family vacation photo on Christmas Day, actor and online streamer Eric “Eruption” Tai found his account bombarded with comments regarding the body weight of his wife Rona, who was wearing a bathing suit in the photo. The Tongan-born actor and former It’s Showtime host came to his wife’s defense and replied to the comments by proudly sharing that Rona is one of the country’s most sought-after plus-size models who has done ads for many major brands both in print and commercials. He also clarified that being plus sized does not equal being unhealthy.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH, Eric said that he has no ill feelings towards those who posted harsh comments and shared why he would never reply in anger.

“It is sad that some people judge someone’s health and their whole being based on a single picture. When we see someone happy and confident in their own skin, but they’re built out of the ‘norm’, it’s like people don’t want to see them happy or they’re just quick to judge. Well such is social media nowadays. Oks lang yan. With online, the netizens and comments, we literally have no control. I’ve understood this since starting showbiz 10 years ago. I’ve learned how to turn the other cheek, forgive and forget and not even blocking unless it’s truly below the belt. But even when I reply, it’s with no hate or anger, I just like to keep it sweet and simple. Just facts lang,” he explained.

On her own social media account, Eric’s wife also addressed the unfortunate comments.

“To everyone who body shamed me on my husband’s recent Christmas post, my prayer for you is to find true and unconditional love. Not just from your significant other, but also from yourself. Love yourself even if you’re going through something that you will see it’s beauty and strength despite its imperfection. Know that you can body shame me all day long. But sweetheart, that don’t faze me!”

After getting married six years ago, Eric said that he is more in love with his wife more than ever.

“As for my love for the kumander, the fire of love keeps burning and will continue to evolve unconditionally. She knows what’s up. In the end, it all trickles down to your own family bond, eternal happiness and your relationship with the mighty Man upstairs,” he added. The couple have a son named Legend who turns three next March.
