Philippine representative Tracy Perez will be focusing her efforts on helping those who are affected by Typhoon Odette following the postponement of the Miss World 2021 pageant.
"During this time, the Philippines especially the VisMin area and my hometown Cebu, is badly hit by typhoon Odette and the damages are almost insurmountable. I’m currently working out ways to extend help through @msworldphil and our partners, full details will be posted here once finalized," she wrote on Sunday, December 19.
She also posted words of encouragement for her fellow Filipinos.
"May we be reminded that in these trying times, our dreams and hopes may be on pause but they are never cancelled. Patuloy po tayong lalaban, patuloy tayong babangon Mahal kong Pilipinas," she said.
In her post, Tracy also looked back on her journey so far in the Miss World pageant and remarked that she is looking forward to returning to Puerto Rico once the pageant resumes.
"I will never forget the lessons I learned, the friends I made, the people who helped me, and the memories that I will treasure forever. I cannot wait to be back in Puerto Rico, to once again spend time with the Filipino community who gave their all in supporting me, to see my sisters again whom I shared an unbreakable bond with, and lastly to continue our fight for our beloved country and for those who are struggling, most especially the single mothers," she stated.
The Miss World 2021 competition was postponed due to the COVID-19 cases among its staff and contestants. The pageant was rescheduled on March 16, 2022 in Puerto Rico.
On December 20, Monday, Tracy shared that the Miss World Philippines has launched the "Beauty with a Purpose #OdettePH Relief Initiative."
"We are accepting donations in cash and in kind for those who are affected by typhoon Odette, most especially the solo parents in Cordova and my fellow Argawanons (in the town of Argao). Most of the assistance from national and international sources will surely be centered on the widely broadcasted cities/provinces so let us also help each other and make sure that other areas are known to the world as well because they are in need of our help too," she said.
The beauty queen continued, "Ngayon po natin maipapakita ang ating Bayanihan para sa pagbangon ng buong Pilipinas lalo na ang Visayas at Mindanao. I may be thousands of miles away right now but my heart goes out to all of you who are affected, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Sama sama po tayong babangon, let’s continue to pray and let’s continue to help one another."
