Even though his new film Mang Jose was shot before the pandemic last year, Janno Gibbs shared why it was still not included in the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival lineup. Instead, Viva Film’s entry this year is the action thriller film A Hard Day starring Dingdong Dantes and John Arcilla.

“Of course we wanted it to be in the filmfest kaya lang naka-schedule na talaga yung A Hard Day for the MMFF plus I think Vivamax needed a family film para sa Pasko. Kasi alam mo naman dun puro sexy kaya kailangan nila ng pangbata sa Vivamax,” he explained during the Mang Jose mediacon.

Although not new to the superhero genre, Janno admitted wearing the costume of superhero-for-hire Mang Jose was one of the biggest challenges for him.

“Well it’s not the first time I’m playing a superhero. I played Pedro Penduko twice so bale second time ko na ‘to. Parang imagine-nin niyo na si Pedro Penduko nag-mature na. So my comedy here is much more subtle. Ang pinakamahirap na concern ko dito was the costume because mabigat siya at mainit plus yung helmet nakatakip. Medyo mahirap makipag-fight scene but kinaya naman. Okay lang naman kung bumakat (laughs). The first time I saw the costume I was wowed already. Scene stealer talaga yung costume namin na gawa ng production,” he admitted.

After continually making movies again during the past few years, the Mang Jose star couldn’t help but be thankful to his management for saving his career.

“To be honest, the passion was always there. Wala lang opportunity so I’m very thankful to Viva kasi lahat ng ginagawa ko ngayon is only for Viva. Sila lang yung nag-save ng career ko so I’m very thankful. The passion was always there and I’m blessed na tuloy tuloy ngayon,” he added.

Watch Mang Jose on Vivamax starting this December 24. Starring Janno Gibbs, Jerald Napoles, Manilyn Reynes, Mikoy Morales, and Bing Loyzaga. Directed by Rayn F. Brizuela.
