Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez's family was among those who were affected by the onslaught of typhoon Odette in Cebu.
The Miss Universe Philippines Organization released a statement on Friday, December 17, saying that Beatrice's media interviews will be postponed at the time being as the beauty queen will be heading to Cebu to assist her family.
"We know that many of our media friends want to congratulate and celebrate Bea's Miss Universe Top 5 placement. However, we will be postponing any interviews in the meantime. According to Bea, her family was trapped in their home during the typhoon and it badly damaged the apartment building," the organization said in a statement.
"Thankfully they are physically safe now. Bea's priority is her family's welfare at the moment. As soon as she is out of quarantine, she will head to Cebu to assist them," the statement added.
Typhoon Odette hit several islands in the Philippines including Cebu on Thursday, December 16.
The organization also encouraged the public to support the relief efforts of the beauty queen.
"Instead of our originally planned welcome festivities, the MUPh Organization appeals to the public to support in the relief efforts of Bea, along with SimplyShare Foundation Inc. to help the victims of the typhoon. We will be posting details on where you can donate as soon as it is available," MUPh said.
Beatric arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday, December 16 following her top 5 placement at the Miss Universe pageant held in Israel.
