Director Tonette Jadaone talks about creating ‘The Kangks Show’

After writing and directing projects like Fan Girl and Alone/Together, director Antoinette Jadaone brings to the screen her new raunchy comedy and WeTV Original series The Kangks Show this month. Starring Angelica Panganiban as Dr. Kara Teo as a TV host and sex guru, the series has eight episodes where viewers will get to meet different personalities in need of Dr. Kara Teo’s sage sex advice.

“It’s about time that we talk about sex in a positive way. Sex is good and sex should be talked about para mawala yung stigma ng mga tao sa kinds of sex na kinalakihan natin. In simple terms, parang The Kangks Show is Maalaala Mo Kaya meets Dr. Margie Holmes meets Joe D’Mango. So it’s a show within a show. So it ranges from micro penis to hindi tumitigas agad, even HIV/AIDS.

“Aside from that, may mga sariling problema si Doc Kara ay isa sa mga problema niya yung papausbong na isang TikTokerist na si Cassandra played by Maris Racal na hindi siya doktor pero mas maraming nanunuod ng show niya kaysa kay Doc Kara,” she shared during The Kangks Show mediacon.

The talented director said that it is about time for a series to tackle issues that have long been considered taboo in the country. Through the online platform, direk Tonette said there is less chance of being censored now.

After mounting a pioneering sex positive series, direk Tonette hoped viewers can have a healthy view towards the topics they discuss in each episode after doing intensive research on it.

“Ganun naman talaga yung view ko sa sex na pinalaki kasi tayo sa isang Catholic na country so sabi ang sex is only for pro-creation. Pero actually, hindi lang naman. Sex can be fun at hindi kailangan for pro-creation siya lagi. Yung pinakamalaking natutunan ko yung ginagawa ko yung isang episode, it’s about threesome, it’s about sexuality and HIV and AIDS. Mas lumawak lang yung natutunan ko about those things dahil sa pag-ri-research for The Kangks Show,” she recalled.

After finishing her first WeTv Original series, direk Tonette shared why she enjoyed collaborating with the streaming app.

Baka maging Toot Show, ganyan. Nung in-approve nila yung title ayun tuloy tuloy na. Very collaborative ang WeTV tapos ang maganda sa WeTV the app is free. So it means a lot to me because more people can watch it.

The Kangks Show premieres on WeTV on December 17 at 8 pm. With new episodes available every Friday. The Kangks Show stars Angelica Panganiban, Maris Racal, JC De Vera, Kit Thompson, and Angeli Bayani. Written and directed by Antonette Jadaone.
