A short haired Darna?
Jane de Leon, who is set to topbill the upcoming Mars Ravelo's Darna: The TV Series of ABS-CBN, surprised her fans on Monday, November 29, with photos of herself sporting a short hairstyle.
The actress, who recently turned 23, shared a glimpse of her new look in her most recent update on Instagram.
"Cutting my hair for a role? Definitely did it!" she captioned her post, along with the hashtags #NEWLOOK and #ShortHair.
She did not specify which role she traded in her long locks for, but currently, Jane is still shooting scenes for the highly anticipated Darna: The TV Series.
Also on Instagram, producer JRB Creative Productions posted a video clip showing Jane similarly sporting a short hairstyle while meeting with ABS-CBN executives alongside other cast members of Darna.
It was in 2019 when Jane was cast in the coveted role of Darna, after Liza Soberano withdrew from the project because of a finger injury.
Helmed by Chito S. Roño, Darna: The TV Series was originally planned as a movie before it was announced as a TV series in December 2020.
"May masaya po kaming ibabalita sa inyong lahat. Tuloy na tuloy na po ang paglipad ni Darna. At ang gaganap bilang Darna ay walang iba kung hindi si Ms Jane de Leon na patuloy nagpapakita ng sipag at determinasyon sa paghahanda sa muling paglipad ni Darna," ABS-CBN said in a statement.
Joining Jane in the Darna: The TV Series main cast are Zaijian Jaranilla as Darna’s sidekick Ding; Joshua Garcia as a new character, a police officer named Brian; Iza Calzado as the original Darna and Narda’s mother Leonor Custodio; and Janella Salvador as Darna's snake-haired nemesis Valentina.
Other cast members include Rio Locsin, Kiko Estrada, Simon Ibarra, Young JV, and Joj Agpangan.
Cameras started rolling for Darna: The TV Series in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan early this month. A target release date for the series has yet to be announced as of this writing.
