It’s been 28 years since she won the Binibining Pilipinas World title in 1993 and took home the 2nd runner-up crown at the Miss World international pageant in the same year but Ruffa Gutierrez shows that some memories are still very fresh in her mind. The 47-year-old actress and current It’s Showtime judge shared one of her memorable moments as a beauty queen in her latest Instagram post last November 21.

Accompanying the post was a photo of a then newly-crowned Ruffa with Hollywood singer and actress Vanessa Williams who served as one of the judges at the Miss World pageant that year. She wrote, “November 27, 1993: The day I met Vanessa Williams at the 43rd Miss World Beauty Pageant when she asked me, ‘Miss Philippines, how would you tell a girl who is suffering from low self esteem to feel better about herself?’ My answer : ‘I would tell her to believe in herself because it’s not only physical beauty that’s important, it’s also inner beauty. Like what the Little Prince said, what is essential is invisible to the naked eye....’ 👑”

Ruffa also included another fun fact in her post that links her to the American actress. “16 years later in 2008, I played the role of Daniella in ABS-CBN’s ‘I love Betty La Fea’, while @vanessawilliamsofficial played Wilhelmina Slater in the US Version of ‘Ugly Betty’. ❤️” she added.
