Beauty queen Katarina Rodriguez and her partner, businessman Niño Barbers, have welcomed their first child together.

The Miss World Philippines 2018 shared the exciting news with her fans on Instagram, saying she gave birth on August 25, 2021 at exactly 4:02 in the morning.

Posting a photo of herself with her then-newborn son, Robert Joaquin, she wrote: "You'll be in my heart, from this day on, now and forever."

"Stole my heart like no one has before," she also said of her baby boy.

Aside from her post, Katarina also released a vlog on her YouTube channel documenting the emotional moment when she gave birth to Robert Joaquin via water birth.

According to Katarina, she and her partner did not expect that she would give birth a few days earlier than her due date.

"We were in the dining room playing board games after dinner when I went up to shower. I noticed a small chunk of blood come out, then called midwife Allen who then checked that I was 3 cm dilated. I messaged my doula to let her know and she said she'd come over. Niño and I kept telling everyone I would probably give birth in another couple of days. ... I was confused because I still hadn't felt the contractions. Then nearing midnight I started to feel something like a fist pushing down on my cervix. This is when I knew my little boy was ready to come out," she said.

"Little waves of pain all around my tummy and lower back and inner thighs would come and go. Still mild to moderate pain, I could still watch my K-drama. At around 12:30 a.m. after each contraction I would pee then throw up. I never imagined throwing up would relieve me, but it did. I told myself this kid is pushing my organs up because he really wants to come out and meet everyone. Doula Tere, Niño and midwife Allen, all took turns massaging my lower back as the pain began to command my focus. My game face was on. I kept track of every wave of pain, each contraction that tested my strength, each one gradually upping its intensity. I focused on the time, how much break I had in between the pain to get myself together and make a plan on how to conquer the next set," she added.

Katarina recalled going into the pool at around 2:30 am, just as her inner thighs started to shake and she felt like collapsing.

"I was leading every step of my labor, listening distinctly to every part of my body. Going downstairs and into the warm water relieved some of the pain, but with each contraction the pain also increased. Water has always been on my side, nothing could take me out of that pool," she said.

While going into labor, Katarina said she thought of going to the hospital because of the "intense" and "unbearable" pain she was feeling.

"But I had made a promise to myself not to speak or even think of anything negative," she said. "From 2:30 a.m. until 4:00 a.m, I was doing the breath of fire (if you practice yoga or breathing meditation you may be familiar with this method of breathing). I was counting to ten over and over again in my head. I have never counted so much ever. At this point it was @jazzgardiner holding onto my hands as Niño needed to help make sure the water remained at the proper temperature. My energy level was going down and I was drinking water every two minutes in between contractions."

In her post, Katarina also described the pain of childbirth as akin to "partying all night then running a marathon right after while having period cramps."

"I could feel the end of it all coming when the contractions got closer together, truly testing my mental and physical strength," she continued. "I wanted to pull Jazz into the pool and doula Tere to break my lower back because of the pain. I asked three times if I could push, and Tere yelled to me no three times. But the urge felt like fire. My baby boy was demanding to come out. I kept repeating my mantra, 'I trust my body, I trust my baby, I trust my God,' over and over while listening to Jazz's voice. Tere yelled for me to open my eyes or it might go bloodshot as the time was very near to push. I shouted if I could push, Tere and Allen shouted back, 'Push!'

"And finally at 4:02 a.m., after 3 and a half intense hours and one big push, my boy came swimming into our world."

Katarina, 28, announced her pregnancy in early August. At the time, she was already eight months pregnant with her son.

In an interview with Metro.Style, the beauty queen, who is now based in Siargao, explained why she wanted to deliver her first child via water birth.

"The concept of being in the water while giving birth sounded so appealing to me. ... I guess being in Siargao and being always in the water or near the water and the fact that the baby’s in liquid now and will come into the world and have such a smooth transition, it sounds so nice for the baby and for myself. The only way I can think of it is anything outside of the water, I’m just ‘Oh, baka it’s going to be tough to push out the baby.’ At least, I’ll have some sort of gravity working in my favor with the water, with the pool,” she said.
