Actress and social media star Alex Gonzaga is celebrating the first anniversary of her marriage to politician Mikee Morada.

To mark the special occasion, Alex posted a snap from their civil wedding on her Instagram page this Thursday, November 11.

"One year happily married with you my papamelly and I’m so thankful you showed up that day!" she captioned the photo.

After being a couple for more than four years, Alex and Mikee tied the knot in a simple wedding ceremony at the former's residence in Taytay, Rizal in November 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

They made the announcement through a vlog released on Alex's YouTube channel in January 2021.

“We just wanted to thank our families because the moment we said na we are gonna get married, they’re all very supportive and lahat sila pumunta dito. Well, the immediate family,” said Alex at the time.

“This wedding is really for our parents. Kasi siyempre ‘yung nangyayari ngayon, it’s very uncertain. Hindi natin alam kung kelan matatapos ang pandemic. So siyempre gusto namin to seal the deal na nandito kami lahat, na nandito tayo lahat,” she added.

While they didn’t get to experience their dream ceremony due to the pandemic, the couple said they are hoping to have a bigger wedding soon.

“Nirespeto ni Mikee ‘yung parents ko, ‘yung parents niya. So I’m very happy also that he did it. We will see you all next year by God’s grace in a bigger wedding," said Alex.

Ahead of their wedding anniversary, Alex took to social media to confirm the sad news that she had suffered a miscarriage.

"2 months ago we found out that I was pregnant and 3 weeks ago, we got a heartbreaking news that we might be having an anembryonic pregnancy (blighted ovum). Our doctor advised us to wait for the process to naturally take its course. So we had to wait for a while for the pregnancy to finally end before we can tell our story," said Alex in her post back in October.

The actress admitted that the unfortunate incident tested her and Mikee's faith ("There was a lot of crying."), but still, they were hopeful, "clinging on to a miracle that an embryo would still appear."

"But last Tuesday (October 12), the Lord’s will prevailed and we finally closed the book of our first pregnancy," she said.

"We share our story to give hope that in the midst of this pain and loss the Lord will always sustain you. To any couple who’s going through this or who might go through this pain, don’t ever lose hope. It’s not your fault this happened. At your own pace you can start to grieve and heal. Mikee and I held on to our Lord Jesus to prepare and help us accept our situation. He blessed us with a kind of LOVE that is ready to understand. We know that in His perfect time He will bless us with our ultimate desire," Alex added.

She ended her post by sharing her short, heartrending message for their baby, and for all those who respected her and Mikee as they mourned their loss.

“To our baby whom we almost had, thank you for giving mommy and daddy joy even for a short span. Lastly, thank you to everyone who gave us time to heal,” she said.
