Squid Game breakout star Jung Ho-yeon has become the most followed Korean actress on Instagram.
Ho-yeon surpassed Lee Sung-kyung and Song Hye-kyo's number of followers who used to be the most followed and the second most followed Korean actress on the social media platform respectively.
Ho-yeon now has 13.4 million followers as of this writing on Instagram. Meanwhile, Sung-kyung has 12.9 million followers and Hye-kyo has 12 million followers on the platform.
The Squid Game actress used to have around 400K followers on the platform before the global hit series was released on Netflix.
Ho-yeon is a Korean supermodel who had her acting debut in Squid Game.
As a model, she graced the covers of Vogue Girl Korea and Nylon Korea, among others.
She also walked the runways of various fashion brands like Marc Jacobs, Fendi, and Chanel, among others.
In Squid Game, Ho-yeon plays the role of Kang Sae-byeok, a North Korean defector who joined the survival game in order to win the prize money for her family.
Ho-yeon is a close friend of BLACKPINK's Jennie.
The BLACKPINK member visited the actress on the set of Squid Game and sent her a coffee truck to show support for her.
Squid Game has become the number 1 show in many countries since it was released on Netflix.
According to Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos, the show is poised to become the biggest show ever on Netflix.
“There’s a show on Netflix right now that is the number one in the world. Like, everywhere in the world. It’s called 'Squid Game,'. It’s only been out for nine days, and it’s a very good chance it’s going to be our biggest show ever," Ted remarked during his talk at CodeCon last September as reported by today.com.
Squid Game was released on Netflix on September 17.
