Actor McCoy de Leon admitted that he gave up on his girlfriend, actress Elisse Joson, after he grew tired of their relationship despite believing that it was worth fighting for.
The couple, who confirmed their reconciliation in June this year, spoke at length about their one-year breakup in an emotional heart-to-heart, as seen in Elisse's most recent vlog uploaded Wednesday, October 27.
"Isang taon din 'no na nagkahiwalay? Tapos sa isang taon na 'yun, nag-break tayo, malala. Tipong hindi tayo nag-uusap talaga, hindi nagpapansinan. Ito, tanong, umabot ka ba sa point na you hated me after breakup?" asked Elisse.
McCoy answered in the affirmative, but explained that his anger wasn't directed at Elisse, but more at their situation at the time.
"Hindi directed sa 'yo. Na-hate ko 'yung isang tao kasi sobrang mahal ko...Kasi kung hindi ka naman importante sa akin, kahit anong gawin mo sa akin wala akong pakielam. Gets mo?" he said.
"Andoon sa point na naging artista tayo. Lahat ng comment ng tao, maririnig mo, lahat ng pwedeng gawin sa 'yo ng isang tao, pangit man o hindi, makikita mo," he continued. "[Na-hate ko 'yung taong] sobrang mahal ko dahil sa nangyari."
Though they refused to go into details about their breakup, it was suggested during the heart-to-heart that it was McCoy who walked away from their relationship. And it was for this reason that Elisse admittedly resented the actor, saying she felt betrayed and left behind by what he did.
"Kasi nga nag-expect ako na hindi ka bibitaw or hindi ka maggi-give up or magpapaubaya. 'Yun, siguro 'yun. And then, dinaan ko na lang nga sa galit 'yung feeling ko na betrayal. Parang ganun 'yung feeling ko that time, parang I got left behind," said Elisse.
"So you admit na paubaya 'yung reason?" McCoy asked.
"Parang ganun. Kasi that's what you still say. That's what happened din naman," she said.
According to McCoy, even he didn't expect that he would give up on their relationship.
"Kasi alam kong worth it. Ganun ako, eh. 'Worth it 'to, worth it 'to,' kahit 'yung nasa paligid mo, 'Hindi, hindi na 'yan. Tama na, lumayo ka na.' 'Hindi, worth it 'to kasi alam kong meron siyang reason.' Pero syempre alam mo masakit naman," he said.
It was at this point when the actor started to tear up, prompting Elisse to say, "Oh bakit ka umiiyak? Light lang tayo. 'Wag tayong umiyak."
"Hindi, ano lang, napuwing," answered McCoy with a laugh, after wiping his eyes with a napkin.
He added: "[Sabi ko nga], 'yung pagod. Kasi obvious naman. Tsaka 'yun nga, kung hindi lang nag-aaway kaya ko naman, eh."
McCoy, 26, and Elisse, 25, met during their stint as housemates in the reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky Season 7. Their pairing, dubbed "McLisse," spawned a following for their sweet on-cam moments.
They eventually became an official couple, but broke hearts in 2018, when they confirmed that they had parted ways. At the time, neither of the two talked about the details of their split, but both did admit that they were hurt by what happened.
Towards the end of the video, Elisse explained why she and McCoy refused to discuss the reason for their breakup in public.
"Kasi nga ayaw din naman ng... Parang kung ano 'yung meron kami that time, enough na 'yun for us, 'di ba? Which was nice because it felt peaceful. 'Yung parang tayo lang 'yung nakakaalam ng kung anong meron tayo," said Elisse.
Of their current relationship, the actress said: "Ngayon masasabi ko talaga na iba. Iba compared sa kung paano kami nung beginning... Especially tayo, dumating sa point na 'yun nga, nag-break, na we hated each other, nagalit tayo sa isa't isa. Mas naging iba the second time around kasi nagkaroon ng ganun... Ngayon it feels more real."
