Before joining the cast of the Vivamax project Sarap Mong Patayin, beauty queen turned actress Ariella Arida said she did not hesitate about accepting the project when she found out who she would be working with.
“Honestly nung nalaman ko na si direk Darryl (Yap) yung magiging director ko, it’s one of the reasons na napa-oo ako for the film (laughs). Since we have our common friend din talaga and nabanggit niya din sa akin ng aming common friend kung paano ba si direk Darryl. Nakaka-pressure kasi I know yung mga previous movies niya have been really the talk of the town and alam natin controversial siyang director. It’s one of the reasons kung bakit ako napa-oo to the role kahit na alam ko na the role is very challenging at kakaibang genre siya but dahil sa kanya kaya ako napa-oo dahil hindi ko alam kung kailan ko siya ulit makakatrabaho so given this moment I said yes because he’s the director.
“True enough, he’s very accommodating. Parang tingin namin sa isa’t isa magbabarkada kami. That’s why siguro when it comes sa set, naging kumportable lahat kami sa isa’t isa. Masaya dahil with that kind of environment naging maganda yung outcome nung film and I’m so excited na mapapanuod niyo itong lahat,” she shared.
After playing the role of comedian Lassy Marquez’s close friend who connives with him to catfish Kit Thompson in the film, Ariella said it is her scene asking Kit to spit in her hand while she services him inside a car that she thought would be the most difficult scene for her to shoot.
“This is really a different me. Well hindi naman talaga ako ito. This is Krista. I would say yung mahirap na part is yung sa kotse talaga kasi first day pa lang yung eksena namin kailangan ko na siya gawin nung gabi. So alam ni Kit yung pinagdaanan ko dito, kinausap ko siya tapos hanggang na-move ng na-move yung eksena ng car dahil umulan bigla tapos nung second day basta binago yung schedule namin hindi inabot for that scene. So na-move on the third day. So parang nakahinga ako ng dalawang araw.
“And then nung second day na namin, si Lassy yung pinagpa-practice-an ko (laughs). So nung second day na hindi natuloy, since yung mga eksena namin na kinuhaan is yung nasa loob rin ng kotse pero si Lassy yung katabi ko kaya kay Lassy ko ginagawa (laughs). So akala ko alam ko na, na yun na mismo yung gagawin ko. But no, on the real day na gagawin na namin yun, may additional instructions si direk Darryl, the spit part. So of course while thinking about it I was still Ariella kasi at that time so parang talagang hindi ko alam paano ko siya magagawa,” she recalled.
The 32-year-old actress added that after shooting the scene, she immediately was relieved to get it over with.
“Thankfully, biglang nag-transform to Krista ako once lumabas kami sa kotse tapos mag-te-take na. Krista na ako nun eh. Buti naman dire-diretso naman namin nagawa. Yun nga lang, nagkataon humarang yung sunflower so we had to do it again (laughs). Okay na rin kasi unang araw nasabak ako dun and then hindi natuloy so parang initiation. Kasi yung mga the following days na gagawin namin wala pa palang sinabi yung eksena na yun (laughs). So it’s one of the hardest scenes,” she added.
Other difficult scenes for Ariella to shoot were the torture scenes which happened in the latter half of the film.
“Yung masasabi ko talaga physically, emotionally, and mentally na sobrang mahirap for me what the torture part kasi sobrang haba nung eksena na yun. Sabi ko nga, from 8 pm until 3 am we were doing that scene. So physically talaga ang sakit, pasa pasa and then emotionally bawal kaming bumigay dun sa character. Mabigat yun and emotionally lahat. Well totoong pagod na rin kami ng alas-tres nagbubugbugan pa kami, something like that. Kaya talagang sobrang trini-treasure ko every moment we had for this film kasi feeling ko nagawa namin ng tama at maayos lahat ito. We really did our best here,” she said.
With the Sarap Mong Patayin trailer showing some bloody scenes, Ariella shared what lessons viewers can get from watching the sexy thriller online.
“Siguro mas naging madugo yung mga eksena, mas naging malansa yung mga eksena kasi lahat kami nakadroga dito. So I guess one lesson you can get from here is don’t do drugs. Visually, this is a sexy and psycho type of film so may kini-cater na market and at the same time, the film is very visual. Actually nabigla kami na konti lang yung dialogue nito. So it’s more of the action, more of the kilos and for me bagong bago para sa akin yun. And the way it was really made, kakaiba siya so more than the lesson na mapupulot nagtin which is drugs is never good to us and huwag tayong manloko ng kapwa natin, it’s how the film was written and kung paano siya ginawa and kung paano siya in-execute. So I hope na makita ng ating mga viewers yun.
“Kahit kami mismo nung film, nung pagkakita namin nung trailer parang ma goosebumps pa rin kami or something like that. Kasi hindi namin inakala na wow ganun lalabas. And siguro din nga the movie is very visual. It’s not the type of regular film na madaming dialogue, madaming scripts. It’s very visual talaga especially towards the end of the film and siguro kung ano yung nakita nila sa trailer, sobrang patikim pa lang yun kung ano yung puwedeng makita nila dun sa buong film. There’s more,” she explained.
