Ariella Arida said she has no regrets jumpstarting her acting career after her beauty queen reign. The Filipina beauty is one of the lead stars of director Darryl Yap’s 11th film Ang Sarap Mong Patayin where she plays the role of a woman who connives with her gay friend (Lassy Marquez) in order to catfish a man (Kit Thompson).
“Ako naman at this time, at this point, every opportunity na dumadating sa akin, I’m really very happy to just grab it… Actually sobrang yes ako ng yes kapag may opportunity na binibigay sa akin especially when it comes to acting kasi alam ko bago pa ako dito when it comes to acting so I really want to have as much experience as I can get para feeling ko dun mas nahahasa yung acting ko,” she said.
When she first saw the script, Ariella said she was up for the challenge of bringing to life the role of a sexually liberated woman onscreen.
“With the story and the role itself, siyempre nabigla talaga ako. Pero sabi ko nga, it’s something na it’s a challenging role at saka alam ko naman na hindi ako pababayaan ng Viva at saka ni direk Darryl and buti na lang din direk is someone na madaling kausap. Napag-uusapan niyo yung mga bagay bagay. Alam ko it’s provocative, challenging nga yung role, pero nagawa naman siya in a way na nag-click kami pareho ni direk dun so ayun yung super thankful ako.
“People might see it like yes it is a sexy film, I did something like that but I’m so proud of it. Yung pinakagusto kong part about it is the overall part, yung production and crew itself. Sobra kasing okay silang kasama. If not for them siguro I wouldn’t feel this way na parang sobrang gaan. But in reality it’s really magaan for me and I’m really happy na I did something like that kasi parang not all the time you would see a character that is like that. Especially a movie na ganun ka-psycho, ganun ka-gory and I’m happy with it,” she said.
Not a stranger to dating apps, Ariella revealed she used to be active on them whenever she traveled abroad.
“I’ve tried dating apps pero nothing here in the Philippines (laughs). Pag nag-ta-travel ako. Pero no successful story. Hanggang chat chat lang. And then napansin ko din. Pero walang catfishing na nagaganap, ako mismo. Pero mostly din ang nakakausap ko parang ang dating sa kanila I’m messaging them because kailangan ko ng parang tour guide dun sa isang place kasi nga tourist ako, something like that. So wala, harmless naman. Pero actually fun siya gawin (laughs). Alam ko ngayon especially pandemic parang walang choice, so I guess we should all be responsible and careful din. Madali namang i-Google din yung tao ngayon at madali namang pakiramdaman kung totoo ba yung kausap mo. Ako nga mas risky on my part because I do it when I travel pero I never tried meeting them pa in person. Hanggang message lang. Hindi kaya ng sarili ko makipag-meet eh,” she recalled.
To those who issued harsh comments about her film when the initial trailer was released, Ariella said she did not let critics affect her because they have not seen the entire film.
“Pag may reaction tinatawanan na lang. Siguro in-expect ko na din na people will say something about this especially sa role kung bakit ko tinanggap and sa akin naman kasi, trailer pa lang yung napapanuod nila and sometimes people will think na yung trailer naibigay na sa ‘yo lahat pero in reality wala pa po yan sa mapapanuod niyo. Actually kung ano man yung nababasa ko ngayon is like parang ina-absorb ko pero siguro what matters for me is yung reviews nila after watching the movie.
“I know naman expected ko na people will say bakit mo tinanggap this kind of role especially sa trailer pinapakita talaga nila yung role is very provocative type and ina-absorb ko lang. I will wait until they will see the full movie dahil ayun ang mas importante sa akin yung reviews. But then nga sabi nga namin ni Lassy (Marquez) we’ll just laugh at it and ang mahalaga pinag-uusapan yung pelikula mo. And ako, proud naman ako talaga sa movie na ‘to kaya no matter what they say, we all know na ginawa namin yung best namin dito sa movie na ito,” she added.
