Following their official launch as a boy group last January 29, BGYO members Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate are looking forward to an exciting year ahead after almost two years of training together as a group. BGYO leader Gelo admitted there are plans for them to penetrate the international entertainment market.
“We’re working hard for that (laughs). There’s actually a plan to translate our debut song ‘The Light’ into different languages and for sure there will be more videos and more content to produce for other markets to enjoy not just for Filipinos. As a group we really want to create an impact on the world with our music so hopefully everybody can stay with us and support us. So expect kayo ng more quality performances and original content kaya subscribe lang kayo sa mga social media platforms namin and para updated kayo palagi,” he shared during the “Be The Light” debut single online launch event.
According to the group, having to be apart from their families during the pandemic while they did intensive training as a group was the most challenging part of their year.
“For us I think the most challenging part of our training is the time na hindi namin kasama yung parents and families namin because during the pandemic when it started we were all together in one house and we used that time to practice more and improve more as a group. Siguro since challenging yung times ngayon kailangan lahat virtual, we will promise na magiging active kami on social media parati and we will do our best para bigyan kayo ng surprises every time na mag-pe-perform kami,” Gelo adds.
During the event, local media asked the group members to reveal who their celebrity crushes are and if there was ever a possibility of them falling in love with a fan. “First of all, yes we’re single. Sa celebrity crush, I really admire Ms. Jane de Leon kasi hindi lang maganda, magaling umarte. Pero mabait na tao din. Falling in love with a fan puwede, why not? Yung love kasi parang bigla na lang siyang susulpot sayo ng di mo alam. Kaya malalaman natin in the near future,” Akira said.
As the youngest member of the group, Nate said he is attracted to two Korean performers. “I really admire Red Velvet’s Irene and IU. If I were to fall in love with a fan well I’ll leave it to fate,” he said.
BGYO leader Gelo revealed he is also a K-pop singer admirer. “Yes I’m single and my celebrity crush is Jihyo from Twice. Hindi ko lang siya nagustuhan dahil maganda siya pero gusto ko lahat nung qualities niya as a K-pop idol. Matagal naman ako napamahal sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa amin pero why not, love is love naman and wala namang pinipili ang mahal mo,” he explained.
Fil-Chinese member Mikki, who is also unattached at the moment, is a fan of one of the world’s hottest girl groups. “I’ve been a follower of BLACKPINK and I really like Jenny. When it comes to falling in love with fans, I think I have to say that you don’t know really what’s in the future so maybe there’s a possibility na I’ll fall in love with a fan too. You never know talaga,” he said.
JL said he is a fan of Kapamilya star Kathryn Bernardo. “Hindi lang dahil sa looks, sa personality niya din and sa galing niya umarte talaga. Yung ma-in love naman sa fans, puwedeng puwede pero hindi nga natin masasabi kung kailang ka ma-i-in love, kusang dumadating yun sayo so tingnan natin soon,” he said.
