James Reid revealed that he was surprised after an online challenge made after him trended on social media recently. Netizens dubbed it as the “James Reid Front Camera Challenge,” following a selfie video he posted on Instagram that was taken during his hiking trip earlier this month.
In his exclusive interview on the online show PUSH Bets Live, James lightheartedly admitted that he has, indeed, seen the challenge entries.
“Actually, nabigla ako do’n when I first saw it. I was on a hiking trip and then I saw suddenly there was a front cam challenge because of my long hair,” he said.
“Yeah, I think it’s the first time people saw me with my hair like this. A lot of guys have been growing their hair out during quarantine,“ James added.
Meanwhile, aside from growing his hair, 2020 also had James focusing more on his craft as an artist. James has his own record label Careless Music, which he founded in 2017.
“I guess discipline, especially with work. I’m working up to like 12 hours every day, from 8AM to 8PM. Yeah, I’m just focusing on what’s really important to me, and really pushing for my dreams, and my vision for my music, my company, my artists,” he answered when asked of the adjustments and changes he had to go through in the past year.
Speaking of, James is out with a comeback single titled Soda, which he released on Friday, January 29.
Describing the music as a “soul funk, electronic sound,” James shared his inspiration in making this song, “All the lessons learned from 2020. Learning to turn these difficult situations, these hard times into positive change.”
“I guess the message I want the listeners to take away from this song is a feeling of hope, of peace that there are brighter days ahead, and just to let life surprise you,” he added.
Meanwhile, James also revealed that one of the artists who helped him in writing the song was Nadine Lustre.
As Nadine is also a part of Careless Music, James was asked if they are set to do more collaborations, or probably a movie or a TV project soon.
The two last collaborated for the song Complicated Love, which is a part of Nadine’s album The Wildest Dreams released last October.
James said, “Definitely there’ll be more collaborations in the future. I guess, for film and TV, when the time is right, but we’re both very passionate about music right now.”
