Three years after founding his independent label OC Records with his wife Chynna Ortaleza, Kean Cipriano is happy to branch out and sign up not just musical artists but other personalities as well. Last year, the company welcomed vlogger Mimiyuuuh as part of their growing family.

Dahil nirerespeto mo siya, kaya mong gumawa ng ano, kickass track, parang ganun,” he shared during the OC Records media con held last January 27.

Kean admitted that he was impressed with how clear Mimiyuuuh’s vision of what he wanted to sing even before they started the recording process. He reveals that the vlogger actually rejected his first draft of the “DYWB (Drink Your Water Bitch)” song which was his first track released last October.

Tapos dun na nagsimula and then ginawan ko ng demo. tapos ang kulit kasi yung storya, yung demo na binigay ko sa kanya, kasi I’m thinking Mimiyuuuh is kumbaga internet sensation yan on the mainstream side of things. So sige sabi ko gawa ako demo and yung demo na ginawa ko is very pop. Very mainstream approach.

Instead of being offended, Kean said the rejection proved to him that he had chosen the right artist to sign up in their label. Kasi ibig sabihin, alam nung artista yung gusto niyang mangyari. Meron siyang sinend sa akin na peg. Tapos nung sinabi niya sa akin, we collaborated with other arrangers and producer na nag-co-produce sa akin dun sa track and to tell you honestly, nung na-record namin itong song na ‘to ng hindi kami magkakasama,” he added.

After releasing their first track which was written by Mimiyuuuh, Kean admitted there was some not-so-favorable feedback from netizens regarding his rapping skills.

“Actually yun yung nilalaban ko eh and I’ve been posting it. Pero kung malalaman nila yung naging proseso, more than pagiging artist yung ginawa niya kasi sobra niyang detalyado. Kasi si Mimi wala siyang recording set up talaga. And nung ginawa namin yung track, we were thinking of going to a studio.

After completing work on the song, Kean said he was so proud of the first time singer. Detalye talaga. And we were able to shoot a music video for the song na first music video na shinoot namin yun na during the pandemic. Sobra kaming proud sa track ni Mimi. I’m sure naman everyone knows that she’s really busy now with all the endorsements and everything. Nag-o-offer na nga ako ng movie. Pero depende kung kailan,” he said.

The song “DYWB” has two versions, the latter being a “cleaner” version that is more radio friendly. Kean said those who listen to the song will discover that it is Mimiyuuuh’s homage to Pinoy hip-hop.

So dun ako lalo na-excite kasi hindi siya like straight up na ‘I want to put up a hip-hop track na super pop.’
