Newest Kapamilya star Janine Gutierrez opened up about her decision to enter showbiz.
In an interview with photographer-to-the-stars BJ Pascual, the 31-year-old FAMAS and Gawad Urian Best Actress admitted she was apprehensive about entering the entertainment industry when she was still young. Then again, she felt a certain amount of pressure especially since she comes from a family of showbiz royalties.
“Parang nu’ng bata ako, I was super apprehensive. As in every time people would ask me kung mag-aartista ako, I would say ayoko. Pero kasi, they kept asking me kasi nga lahat ng kamag-anak ko, lahat ng Lolo at Lola ko, artista,” she said.
She added: “So, parang feeling ko I had no choice. So, bilang pasaway, bilang feeling ko I want to make my own choice, sinasabi ko ayoko mag-artista. Lahat sila artista na.”
But according to Janine, no one forced her to join showbiz and that she chose to become a star out of her own free will.
“But then I think, na-realize ko din when I got older, I just wanted to be sure na kung mag-aartista nga ako, it’s because gusto ko, hindi dahil pinilit ako or hindi dahil wala akong choice. So, ayun, in the end, ako din naman ang nag-decide to try it out,” she stated.
Janine went on to reveal that her mom was hesitant to allow her to become an actress especially since she was still in college at that time.
“Kasi I was still in college and I just wanted to work and para may pera ako kasi wala na akong pera at all,” she said.
Since she had no experience in acting at that time, Janine admitted that it felt hard to navigate around and described her experience as a “baptism by fire.”
“Wala naman ako experience eh. Like sobrang I know na I’m so lucky and alam ko ‘yung privilege ko bilang anak ng artista na I was given an opportunity to guest on mga [shows]. I had never naman performed live or on theater ‘tas biglang sasalang ka. So ang hirap. Hindi naman ako magaling. So, parang baptism by fire siya ganun. Dun ka na matututo,” she said.

“My mom is also there and my brother, si Diego, he just started on ASAP. Ayun, I’m excited to work with him also. New Year, new home,” she added.
Admitting that she feels excited for what the Kapamilya network has in store for her this year, she said: “I’m excited kung saan nila ako ilalagay.”
Fans can expect to see Janine in two movies this year including one with Paulo Avelino and another with JC Santos. She also has a teleserye in the works with Dreamscape Entertainment. She is also set to host ASAP Natin ‘To.
