JYP Entertainment has released a statement following reports about GOT7’s supposed departure from the K-Pop agency giant.
According to JYP, it had a lengthy discussion with members of GOT7 to discuss the future of the group whose contract will end in a week’s time.
“JYP has held thorough discussions with the GOT7 members ahead of the expiration of their exclusive contract on January 19,” JYP said in its statement as translated by Korean entertainment site Soompi.
“As a result, both sides have agreed not to renew the contract while hoping for a fresh future,” the statement added.
Despite the decision of both parties to part ways, JYP Entertainment had nothing but praises for the group which the agency described as a representation of K-Pop on the international scene.
“GOT7 has performed exceptionally as a global idol group that represents K-pop since their debut on January 16, 2014,” JYP said.
It then thanked GOT7 for staying with them for the past seven years.
“We genuinely thank GOT7 for being part of the growth of K-pop and JYP, as well as I GOT7 and all fans who have been a source of motivation to GOT7’s activities with their endless support since their debut,” the statement read.
It continued: “Our official relationship ends here, but JYP will sincerely cheer on the new future that the GOT7 members will advance into.”
Composed of members JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, Bambam, and Yugyeom, GOT7 debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2014.
Over the years, the group released numerous hits including “Hard Carry,” “Never Ever,” and “You Calling My Name,” among others.
