After winning the Best Actor nod at this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, Fan Girl star Paulo Avelino shared why his latest acting award is important not just for him, but for the younger generation of actors that he hopes to inspire to take on a more diverse range of roles.
“Siguro this time there’s more mileage because MMFF is the biggest festival locally so I’m sure mas maraming reach, mas madaming tao nanunuod, mas madaming katulad ko na aktor or aktres na makakakita and ma-iinspire sila to not just accept roles like this, but look for the material that they haven’t done and that would challenge them. There’s a lot of reasons eh to be honest pero it’s validation na tama yung pagpili ko at paggawa ko nitong Fan Girl.
“At the same time, I also want to send a message to the young actors to be braver. Don’t be afraid to accept a role. Minsan kasi nagiging hadlang yung stardom or image or yung gustong patunguhan nung bata. Nasa industriya tayo and we are actors, at the same time that the filmmakers are elevating their films, dapat sumabay din ang mga actors na sumabay din sila. When they enter a role, it’s an acting job and yun yung dahil maganda yung gagawin. Sana ganun din yung maging outlook nung mga young actors natin,” he shared.

During his acceptance speech at the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal last December 27, the Fan Girl actor shared why he dedicated his award to his son with former girlfriend LJ Reyes.
