Being born to someone as popular as Vilma Santos comes with a price to pay: spending time in public without a single person noticing almost seems impossible.
In Jessy Mendiola’s latest vlog called Heart-To-Heart Talk with the Howhows, Luis Manzano reveals that his mom tried to make his childhood normal but it was always a challenging task for their family.
So when asked if which girl besides Jessy he would want to have a dinner date, he did not think twice about naming the Star for All Seasons herself.
According to the 39-year-old actor and TV host, the reason why he chose his mom was because he didn’t get to experience the “normal” things most parents and children do such as walking around in malls together.
“From my heart, mommy ko. Seryoso. Kasi ‘yun ‘yung ibang bagay na hindi namin nagawa ng ermat ko — have something na parang quality time. Kasi alam ng lahat na ‘yung mommy ko is a superstar. So marami kaming hindi nagawa na bagay,” he said.
Sharing a memory from when he was still a kid, Luis said his mom brought him to the supermarket when he was around six or seven years old, in an attempt to give him a “normal” life.
He said: “‘Yung isang beses nga nag-grocery kami ni Mommy. Ito ‘yung attempt ni Mommy na bigyan ako ng isang normal life. Nung bata ako, dinala niya ako sa grocery. Siguro mga six ako nito or seven years old para ma-experience na ‘yung mommy kasama ‘yung anak ‘di ba grocery?”
He went on: “Pagtapak pa lang namin — siguro mga tatlong tapak palang — parang mall show. Hindi na kami naka-forward. Pagpasok pa lang sa grocery, nakilala nila mommy ko. Tapos derecho dinala ako ni Mommy sa kotse tapos uwi na kami. So basically wala kami nagawa.”
Reiterating the reason why he chose his mom, he said: “So may mga bagay kaming hindi nagawa. ‘Yung maglakad-lakad sa mall kasama ang magulang? Wala kaming ganun. So isang quiet night siguro with my mom and Ryan.”
