“Nobody deserves COVID-19.”

This is what actress-philanthropist Angel Locsin said in what appears to be her reaction to a pro-Duterte blogger testing positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Byron Cristobal, otherwise known as Banat By, announced his diagnosis in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 18, saying he has not been feeling well since last August 6, his birthday.

“I rested and took my usual medicine for my asthma. After 3 days I was well. I thought everything is ok pero hindi pala,” he said.

“When I tried to be strong and in control the more I become weak. I realized God has something for me. Ironically birthday ko pa. Sabi ko nga sa sarili what a birthday gift from you Lord if this is COVID-19,” he added.

He said he had a swab test last August 16 and got the news the next day.

In an Instagram Story Tuesday, August 18, Angel said that she has been receiving messages from netizens asking about her reaction to a blogger “who’s been habitually criticizing me and is now positive of COVID-19.”

“Let’s not wish ill of him. Nobody deserves COVID-19,” she said.

Without dropping names, Angel added, “Hope you get well soon.”

One of the more outspoken local celebrities, Angel has been vocal about her opinions on several national and social issues.

She has minced no words in criticizing the Duterte administration, most recently over the government response to the health crisis, in light of the alleged anomalies within the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), which have reportedly cost it billions.
