She has been consistent with her goal of keeping a healthy and fit body for around eight years now.
But Kris Bernal has not always had a perfect fitness journey.
In her latest vlog, which marks the launch of her new fitness series "#KrisMadeMeDoIt" on her YouTube channel, the 31-year-old actress opened up about her struggles with fitness, particularly being the target of body shamers on social media.
"Even though I love fitness so much, it's not always a perfect journey. Alam niyo, I'm naturally thin. I'm naturally small. And may mga tao talagang nagba-bash sa akin," she said.
"Like, sasabihin nila, anorexic daw ako, bulimic and, like, too thin. But you know, in all honesty, it's just my body type. It's my genes. I'm [an] endomorph... [or] the body type that is the most resistant to gaining weight or gaining muscle because of our fast metabolism. Sobrang bilis ng metabolism ko. Like, no matter how much I eat, hindi talaga ako tabain," she explained.
"Minsan lang din, yes, may mga ganun akong insecurities na, 'Bakit ka ba nagwo-work out? Eh ang payat payat mo na. Hindi ka na mukhang healthy.' Ganyan," she went on. "Pero sa totoo lang kasi, ever since I started working out, ever since I got into this fitness lifestyle, as in, ito 'yung healthiest ko. Ito 'yung masasabi kong hindi ako nagkakasakit, and ito 'yung pinaka-best feeling. So, ang hirap lang din ipaintindi sa mga tao na hindi porket payat ka, eh. bawal ka na mag-work out."
Despite all the bashing, Kris said that what keeps her going is her purpose, which is simply to improve herself.
#TheHappyBirthdayKrisBWorkout 🏋️♀️ Since so many of you have been requesting for a LIVE WORKOUT, you ask, I deliver! First time ever!! Join me on my birthday, May 17, Sunday, 4:00PM, on my YouTube channel for a sweaty Sunday session + GIVEAWAYS! What particular workout/challenge do you want me to share? 💪🏼
"The key to my consistency and motivation is simply having a purpose, having that 'why.' Why do I do what I do? Bakit ako nagwo-work out? Bakit ko 'to gustong gawin? It's because I want to improve myself. It lifts my spirits. It boosts my self-confidence. My passion and love for fitness is what keeps me going," she said.
Kris said she wanted the same for her fans and followers, hence she decided to launch a new series on her vlog channel that is dedicated to fitness.
"I'm doing this because I want you to feel good about yourself. It's not about the numbers on the scale. You're more than your weight. You're more than your body. I hope na hindi niyo kinukuha 'yung validation niyo from comments or from other people, but you get your worth, your value from God," she said.
"My goal is to get you closer to you closer to your fitness goal with every workout," she added.
Kris will release workout videos weekly on her YouTube channel, which has over 285,000 subscribers as of writing. The GMA-7 star started vlogging in 2019.
