Korean drama fans enrolled at the University of the Philippines-Diliman are in for a treat as the premier state university offers a class on the analysis of K-drama series.
A post by netizen Arolf Leo in the public Facebook group Narinig Ko Sa UP (Overheard at UP) received favorable response online after he showed a screenshot of the said course.
Named ‘Special Topics: Analysis of K-drama Series,’ the course requires the following: “Internet connection. Video conferencing app (Google Meet, Messenger, Viber, or Zoom). Computer or gadget (desktop, laptop, tablet, cellphone) with working video and audio input/output. UVLE account.”
Likewise, students are also required to watch popular K-drama series Crash Landing On You (2020), Chicago Typewriter (2017), and Misaeng (2014). “Netflix subscription or any access to the following kdrama series: Crash Landing on You (CLOY), Chicago Typewriter, and Misaeng. You may start watching the three kdrama series enumerated. This course is open to all colleges,” the Instructor’s Remarks added.
With the Filipinos’ strong clamor for Korean entertainment, it is not surprising that universities start to study the phenomenon. Last year, another leading university in the country, Ateneo de Manila University, announced their offer to teach Korean through K-pop and K-drama.
