Pia Wurtzbach opened up about her struggles growing up in a poor family. In the online fundraiser of  Kabataan sa Kartilya ng Katipunan (KKK), the Miss Universe 2015 shared how she overcame the hurdles that came her way since she was little.

Pia shared that the life of her family was really tough back then. She revealed that their house used to be flooded and that she used not to have allowance for school.

Given their living conditions, Pia pushed herself to excel in school and to focus on her education.

Challenge accepted 🖤 Be the woman who fixes others crown without telling the world it was crooked 🖤 I’ve been told that the real meaning behind this movement is more somber than it may seem. This challenge originated in Turkey in order to raise awareness about the high rates of femicide in the country. Turkish people wake up every day to see a b&w photo of a woman who has been murdered on their IG feed, on their newspapers, on their TV. Then this b&w photo challenge started as a way for women to raise their voice. To stand in solidarity with the women we have lost. To show that one day, it could be their picture that is plastered across news outlets with a black and white filter on top. Let’s spread this big movement for empowering and supporting all innocent beautiful women by posting your b&w photo and sharing your voice✊🏻 #womenempoweringwomen @araarida @bela @pauleenlunasotto @christi.mcgarry @karen_gallman @bianca.guidotti @carlajenina @pongniu @vimrushton

Pia wants to inspire the youth with her story to persevere, value education, and never give up.
