Bugoy Drilon’s name recently got dragged when his close friend Daryl Ong claimed a “big boss” from ABS-CBN banned them from the Kapamilya network. But for the first time ever, the “Pinoy Dream Academy” finalist broke his silence and spoke up on the issue to clear his name once and for all.
“Actually, klinear naman na po ni Daryl sa video na nadamay lang ako. Ayaw ko na nga po sana pag-usapan ang issue na 'to kasi I'm at peace naman po sa puso ko,” Bugoy said during a Zoom conference with the press to promote his new single “Impossible Love.”
As a matter of fact, Bugoy still made guest appearances in several programs under the Kapamilya network including music channel MYX, FM radio MOR, and the long-running variety show ASAP.
“Actually, may MYX po ako na guesting. Nag-MOR na rin po ako na guesting. Actually nung nag-lockdown, in-invite na rin ako ng ASAP Natin 'To to guest,” he said.
But what exactly happened?
The 30-year-old singer — who said the issue started at an airport while waiting for their flight for a provincial show — admitted that the conversation between him, Daryl, a woman who used to work with ABS-CBN, and another man whose identity remains unknown, did happen.
“Ganito po ‘yun. Gusto ko ilagay ninyo ang shoes niyo on my shoes. May kaibigan ka, nag-uusap kayo. Siyempre, hindi naman pwedeng hindi magsalita kasi you're part of the conversation. Ang sinabi ko lang po doon talaga, kasi that time, nagkakaroon sila ng sign petition, ‘di po ba? Na one million signatures for that petition,” he said.
According to Bugoy, the woman — who happens to be a road manager — chimed in and told them to invest with the network.
He said: “Ang sabi sa akin ng isang RM. Hindi siya part ng Star Magic, pero nag-a-RM-RM siya sa isang artista po. And then, doon na siya nag-banter si ate girl na 'Bakit hindi ka mag-invest sa ABS kasi medyo down sila?”
Bugoy said the girl’s statement prompted a response from Daryl. “And then, doon na siya magsabi nang 'Sa tingin mo ba mare-renew ‘yung franchise ng ABS-CBN?’”
To which Bugoy responded: “And ang sagot ko, 'I think, yes.' Kasi nakita ko sa Facebook, I think, kulang na lang sila ng 60,000 sa one million signatures. ‘I think, yes, mare-renew sila.’ ‘Yun lang ang kinontribute ko sa conversation.” He added: “So, I can't say sa side ni Daryl kasi sinabi na po niya ang side niya."
While Bugoy did not say anything, he did not escape from getting bashed online. Then again, his heart is still filled with gratitude to ABS-CBN which he considers his home network.
“I know in my heart wala akong ginawa. Alam ko po ‘yung gratitude, ‘yung utang na loob ko sa mother network ko. Kasi mother network ko po ‘yun. Nagkataon lang po na may nag-open nang ganoong conversation. Eh hindi naman po basta na hindi ko siya sasagutin,” he stated.
He went on: “Kaya ayun, sinagot ko lang base sa sarili kong nakita na information which is nasa Facebook ‘yun. ‘Yun ‘yung sinabi ko sa kanya nung tinanong ako.”
Despite everything that happened, Bugoy said he and Daryl managed to maintain their friendship — contrary to what’s making rounds online.
“We're okay po. Going strong pa rin ang friendship bamin. Because at the end of the day po, we are trying to entertain the people. And at the end of the day, ‘yung music po. ‘Yun po ang motto ko, e, like, I want to share my music,” he said.
Bugoy went on to share that both Daryl and Michael helped him promote his new single.
"Sila ni Michael, ipinost nila yung kanta ko. They helped me promote my song. And Michael even sent me food. Even Daryl — he messaged me and congratulated me, 'Bro, I'm so happy for you. Na ang tunog mo talaga iba. So, ituloy mo lang 'yan’. He gave me words of encouragement. So, nakakatuwa ‘yun.”
Meanwhile, Bugoy reiterated that he won’t be where he is right now without ABS-CBN.
“I feel sad po because, at the end of the day, bali-baligtarin man po natin ang mga pangyayari, ABS-CBN helped me kung anuman meron ako. And I'm forever grateful po sa kanila.Kasi, hindi ko naman maa-achieve ang ganitong sitwasyon ko, ganitong status ko, because sila naman po talaga ang tumulong sa akin.
“Actually, I'm sad po sa mga nakatrabaho ko sa ABS-CBN na there's a point na hindi ko na sila makita. They don't have work. So I'm sad and sympathize po sa kanila,” he shared.
He went on: “And, ang laki po ng utang na loob ko sa ABS-CBN for giving me this opportunity to share my talent."
Bugoy admitted that he still keeps in touch with some employees of the network even up to this day.
"Kinu-comfort ko po sila. Alam ko yung sitwasyon. Alam ko yung nararamdaman nila. So, I give them comfort. Like ‘everything is gonna be okay’. Kinukumusta ko sila isa-isa. Sabi ko sa kanila, ‘we have to fight kasi hindi pa naman tapos ang laban’.”
On how he supports his netwok, he said: “I support them naman po. I think the best support na mabibigay ko is prayer. Prayers po talaga. You have to let God do the thing.Sabi ko, 'Panginoon, saan po ako pupulutin?' Pero naging positive pa rin ako na magiging okey ang lahat. There's a lot of ways.”
He went on: “Even though they didn't get the permit for another franchise, they found a way kung paano pa rin sila makakatulong sa pagbibigay-saya sa kanilang audience. So, nakakatuwa naman na di naman natigil ang pagbibigay ng tulong at saya sa mga tao ang ABS-CBN. There's a way pa rin para makatulong.”
