Maja Salvador, Gerald Anderson, and Julia Barretto were among the local stars who participated in the virtual #SONAgKAISA protest as President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27.
#SONAgKAISA is a protest action that addresses a number of issues such as the anti-terror law, the Duterte administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, and, more recently, the forced shutdown of media giant ABS-CBN.
In a portion of the virtual protest, the said artists appeared with separate messages expressing support for their home network, which has been forced to cease the operations of some of its businesses and lay off thousands of workers after its free-TV and radio broadcast were shuttered by the Congress.
Each stressed those who have lost their jobs because of the shutdown are already suffering amid an already trying time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Other Kapamilya stars who participated in the #SONAgKAISA protest included Cherry Pie Picache, Nikki Valdez, Cacai Bautista, and Gillian Vicencio.
#SONAgKAISA was also held as a physical demonstration at the University of the Philippines-Diliman in Quezon City.
