As the cover model of W Korea magazine for August, South Korean actress and hallyu star Jun Ji Hyun shared her experience after making a surprise appearance during the finale of Netflix zombie horror series Kingdom’s second season. The 38-year-old actress and model is rumored to become the lead in the Kingdom prequel although there has been no official confirmation from the show yet.
According to Korean entertainment site Soompi, Ji Hyun shared how long it actually took to shoot her appearance in Kingdom which lasted only for a few seconds.
“Although it was my first filming of Kingdom, I had to signal the end of that project as well as the start of a new season while also giving a glimpse into my character, so it was very difficult. I don’t know if that’s why, but the long filming period was helpful. I was also a fan of ‘Kingdom,’ and I like the style of screenwriter Kim Eun Hee’s work. I think of it as an honor to have gotten to work with the incredible actors and producers who gave life to the charm of ‘Kingdom,’ she said in the interview.
Jun Ji Hyun’s upcoming drama Mount Jiri is also scheduled to premiere in the first half of 2021. “It tells the story of people who encounter life and death on a mountain. The main characters must leave the mountain, but finds themselves in a situation that prevents them from doing so. Those kinds of situations unfold with ‘Mount Jiri’ as the setting. It will capture the spiritual and special energy that mountains give off, so I think it will become a project with a refreshing feel,” she shared.
After becoming popular in the Philippines for her role in the 2001 comedy My Sassy Girl which became one of the highest-grossing Korean comedies of all time. Ji Hyun also became known for her roles in movies like Il Mare, Windstruck, and Assassination as well as TV series like My Love From the Star and Legend of the Blue Sea which were both aired on local television.
Jun Ji Hyun started her career as a fashion model at the age of 16 and started acting in her first drama one year later.
In her W Korea interview, Ji Hyun also shared how she has been able to maintain her inner beauty all these years. “First off, you’re going to have to find out who you are. That’s how you know what you do and do not enjoy doing. Also, I think you have to make sure not to waste your time behaving and meeting others without purpose. Then your quality of life will improve and your self-identity will naturally become more defined. Once you aren’t wasting your time, have discovered your truest self, and have begun to really cherish yourself, whatever you do will feel genuine,” she explained.
The actress also addressed how she has matured after more than two decades in the entertainment industry. “Additionally, as my responsibilities increase with my age, I try to live while carrying the gratitude I have for everything in my heart. I think that’s how you encounter better and more satisfactory experiences,” she added.
