It’s been more than two years since she got married to Robbie Mananquil but Maxene Magalona admitted she was still hesitant about getting pregnant. The couple got married in early 2018 and Maxene has been enjoying married life since then with her model-musician husband. Earlier this year, the couple flew to Bali, Indonesia to undergo yogi training and spent the entire ECQ period there as well.

Last May, Maxene revealed that she was diagnosed with a condition called complex post traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) and shared that she wanted to raise awareness and end the stigma associated with mental health issues. According to Magalona, “C-PTSD is a psychological disorder that can develop due to prolonged and repeated interpersonal trauma.”

In her Instagram post last July 19, Maxene shared why she does not yet want to have kids. “One of the main reasons why my husband and I decided to deepen our yoga practice and become certified yoga teachers was because we wanted to study it professionally so that we can pass on the teachings to our children someday. Although it is common in the Philippines for newlyweds to have babies as soon as they get married, we chose to take our time, focus on our marriage and solidify our foundation before anything else,” she said.

The 33-year-old new yoga teacher said she was scared to have her kids inherit her condition if she was not yet fully healed. “Truth be told, I was really hesitant to get pregnant because of my mental health condition. I was scared that I might just end up passing on my traumas and projecting my negative emotions onto my children. I didn’t want to get pregnant while I was still carrying so much trauma and pain inside of me. Since kids usually copy and inherit the behavior of their parents, I realized that I needed to do something about my mental health condition and really focus all my energy on healing myself and unlearning my negative traits and habits,” she explained.

Currently still in Bali with her husband, Maxene hopes to take the opportunity to make herself better and be ready for parenthood. She wrote, “So, we chose to take this yogic path to be able to help ourselves heal from our past traumas and release all that we need to before we start our own family. Yoga and meditation help us heal from all our physical and psychological injuries, gain more awareness and live a more conscious and healthy lifestyle,” she added.
