Ces Oreña Drilon is one of the employees of ABS-CBN who will be laid off next month following the denial of the network's new franchise.

"This was one of the toughest days I had to face. Telling fellow kapamilyas that they would lose their jobs by end of August. I lost mine too," the news anchor posted on Twitter on Thursday, July 16.

After the House committee voted 70-11 to shut down ABS-CBN on television and radio for good, the network announced that it was left with no choice but to let go of workers.

"With the non-renewal of its congressional franchise, ABS-CBN is now forced to cease the operations of some of its businesses and implement a retrenchment program covering ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries effective end of business day on 31 August 2020," ABS-CBN said in a statement on July 15.

The media giant added, "As much as it hurts us to implement this retrenchment program, this is the only way to ensure the continued employment of the rest of our Kapamilya."

Ces also reflected on how the shutdown of the network will impact the lives of its employees.

My tweet yesterday was picked up by many. I had no idea it would resonate that way. It said : “This was one of the toughest days I had to face. Telling fellow kapamilyas that they would lose their jobs by end of August. I lost mine too.” Aside from the financial uncertainty countless kapamilyas now face, what pains us most is that we love our jobs that will end in August. One message that really touched me was sent by Jimmy Encarnacion, the ABSCBN news cameraman, who was abducted with me 12 years ago. He said “ Ma’am Ces nabasa ko po. Nalungkot ako. Alam ko po gaano nyo minahal work nyo at ABSCBN. Makakabangon po tayo mam.” We wake up in the morning excited and energized because we are passionate to work. It’s more than just a job for us. I am just so happy that people who sent me messages felt that passion in me. This isn’t goodbye. I thank ABS-CBN for the opportunities given me all these past 31 years. It was the place that nurtured me and gave me the possibility to pursue my calling. In truth because I started in MBS 4 which became PTV 4, before I moved to ABS-CBN, I have only known one workplace for the last 36 years. I am #ForeverKapamilya

Ces remarked that being part of the network is more than just a job but rather a calling she’s given the chance to do.

"We wake up in the morning excited and energized because we are passionate to work. It’s more than just a job for us. I am just so happy that people who sent me messages felt that passion in me," she stated.

The former Bandila anchor extended her gratitude to ABS-CBN for nurturing her talent for many years.
