Maxene Magalona recently got diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD).

Maxene Magalona opens up about dealing with health condition

For months, Maxene Magalona has been undergoing therapy sessions after struggling with what she initially thought was a mere “phase.” But as it turns out, she actually has a Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). 

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

“After more than a year of monthly therapy sessions, what the 33-year-old once thought of as a phase ended up being a mental health condition called Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or C-PTSD. “I was actually very glad to finally find out what my condition was because after that, I was able to study and do some research as to how I could help myself heal.” Magalona began reading self-help books and articles to have a deeper understanding of her condition, “I didn’t stop searching for answers. I began looking deep within myself and became curious about what was going on inside of me.” Soon, she realized that in order to care for her mental state, she also had to take care of her body to avoid the feeling of disconnection from it. So, she gave herself time to process her emotions through crying, writing in her journal, exercising, praying and attending therapy sessions. Additionally, Magalona surrounded herself with supportive people, such as her husband @robmananquil and a few close and non-judgmental friends; quit alcohol for more than a year now and stuck to a plant-based diet. “Our physical bodies are a reflection of our mental health and spiritual energy —everything is connected. We cannot just focus on exer­cising and eating healthy without caring for our mental and spiritual well-being,” she learned. She added her daily yoga and meditation practices brought her growth and healing. “Daily yoga and meditation help me detoxify my body and clear my mind of useless mental chatter. This regular practice is also very good for trauma survivors like me because it helps us feel safe and secure in our own bodies,” she related.” Opened up my heart about my mental health condition in an interview with Nika Roque @nnnroque for the @manila.times in the hope of helping those who may be going through the same experience as I am, especially during this pandemic. In an Instagram post, Maxene shared a report from The Manila Times where she opened up about being diagnosed with the said health condition.  

Apart from going to therapy sessions, she also started reading books and articles online to find out more about her health issue. 

“I was actually very glad to finally find out what my condition was because after that, I was able to study and do some research as to how I could help myself heal,” she told The Manila Times. 

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Setting intentions through our yoga and meditation practice helps us direct all our attention and energy towards our goals. For the past couple of months, we have been meditating on healing ourselves and our past traumas, as well as the collective pain that the whole world is currently experiencing. Our intention is to offer our practice daily to God so that He may continue to bless and heal those who need it the most during this global pandemic. Prayer and meditation can really help heal the world especially if we do it together. She said: “I didn’t stop searching for answers. I began looking deep within myself and became curious about what was going on inside of me.”

But Maxene knew she also had to take care of her body so she started exercising more, quitting alcohol for a year, and going for a plant-based diet while attending therapy sessions.

 

 

To help her manage her emotions, she started pouring her heart out by crying and expressing them through journal writing. 

On top of it, she started spending more time with her husband Rob Mananquil and a few of her closest friends.

On why she started doing yoga and meditation practices on a daily basis, she stated: “Daily yoga and meditation help me detoxify my body and clear my mind of useless mental chatter. This regular practice is also very good for trauma survivors like me because it helps us feel safe and secure in our own bodies.” 

 

 

In the said Instagram post, Maxene explained why she decided to open up to the world about her condition.

“Opened up my heart about my mental health condition in an interview with Nika Roque for the Manila Times in the hope of helping those who may be going through the same experience as I am, especially during this pandemic. You are not alone. We are all in this together,” she remarked. 

According to medical website Healthline,C-PTSD results “from repeated trauma over months or years rather than a single event.”

Maxene has appeared in various ABS-CBN projects such as “Dream Dad,” “Nathaniel,” “Doble Kara,” and Playhouse.”
