Gretchen Ho reveals the biggest lesson ABS-CBN taught her: ‘Kailangan ko raw madapa’

<p>After graduating with degrees in management engineering and communications from Ateneo in 2013, Gretchen Ho was able to successfully transition from student-athlete into a TV host as she made her debut on ABS-CBN’s sports magazine show Gameday Weekend which was followed by assignments on various Kapamilya programs like her current hosting duties for Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol, and The Score.</p><p>The 30-year-old volleyball athlete also flew to the US earlier this year after getting accepted into a short course at the Harvard Business School where she studied The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports. </p><p>With the House Committee’s recent decision to reject the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN last July 10, Gretchen shared a post on her Instagram that same day narrating her long and colorful journey with her home network.</p><p>She wrote, “<em>Sa loob ng 6-7 taon, sobrang dami kong nagawa, napuntahan at natutunan dahil sa aking trabaho sa ABS-CBN.</em></p><p><em>“Hindi ko na mabilang kung gaano karaming pyesta, prusisyon, home business, eskwelahan, gym, resort, amusement park, stadium at conference hall ang aking napuntahan.</em></p><p><em>“Tuloy-tuloy ang trabaho. Madalas nakakapagod. Lalo na kung kailangan mong gumising ng 1 am dahil malayo ang venue, o kahit 9 pm pa dahil 7 hours ang biyahe for just two 3-minuter segments.</em></p><p><em>“Oo nakakapagod talaga. Pero alam niyo kung paano ko namemaintain ang energy? Ang bumubuhay sa’kin sa araw-araw ay ‘yung responsibilidad na inako ko sa aking trabaho: yung makapagpasaya at magdala ng ngiti sa mga tao bilang pambungad ng kanilang araw. Madalas nakakapagod. Lalo na kung kailangan mong gumising ng 1am dahil malayo ang venue, o kahit 9pm pa dahil 7 hours ang biyahe for just two 3-minuter segments. Oo nakakapagod talaga. Pero alam niyo kung paano ko namemaintain ang energy? Ang bumubuhay sa’kin sa araw-araw ay ‘yung responsibilidad na inako ko sa aking trabaho: yung makapagpasaya at magdala ng ngiti sa mga tao bilang pambungad ng kanilang araw. Yung maidala ko sa aking mga manonood yung impormasyon na kailangan nila para bumuti ang kanilang buhay. Kahit konti. Araw-araw. Masasabi kong dito ako namulat sa ABS-CBN. Nilagay talaga ako ng mga boss ko sa field para matuto ako. Sheltered daw eh 😅 Kailangan ko raw madapa, bumangon muli, at mas maintindihan nang lubusan ang buhay ng Pilipino. Ilang beses na rin akong umiyak. Ilang beses nasabon. Ilang beses na kinain ang pride chicken. Ilang beses ko na rin naramdaman na parang wala akong alam. Pero heto ako ngayon.. Maraming natutunan at marami pang kailangan matutunan. Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa aking mga kasama sa ABS-CBN dahil pinagkatiwalaan nila ko sa ganitong trabaho. Kahit na galing ako sa mundo ng sports, binigyan nila ako ng pagkakataon na lumabas sa mundong aking kinalakihan. Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa lahat ng mga katrabaho kong umalalay sa’kin lalo na nung napakaawkward ko pang maghost at magsalita. Kahit wala tayong channel ngayon, makakaasa po kayo na walang iwanan!! Ipagpapatuloy pa rin natin ang ating misyon. Mahal ko kayong lahat. <p>After graduating with degrees in management engineering and communications from Ateneo in 2013, Gretchen Ho was able to successfully transition from student-athlete into a TV host as she made her debut on ABS-CBN’s sports magazine show Gameday Weekend which was followed by assignments on various Kapamilya programs like her current hosting duties for Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol, and The Score.<p>The 30-year-old volleyball athlete also flew to the US earlier this year after getting accepted into a short course at the Harvard Business School where she studied The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports. <p>With the House Committee’s recent decision to reject the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN last July 10, Gretchen shared a post on her Instagram that same day narrating her long and colorful journey with her home network.
