Multi-awarded filmmaker Peque Gallaga has been confined in a hospital, his family confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday, May 5.
"Peque Gallaga is in the hospital," a statement from his family, posted by fellow director Lore Reyes on Facebook, read.
However, they clarified that, contrary to rumors circulating that Peque contracted the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), he was hospitalized due to complications arising from his "past health conditions."
"The family of Peque Gallaga would like to make this statement in regard to the news and rumours circulating about him," the statement said.
They went on to appeal for understanding to give them the privacy they need during this trying time.
"They want to honor this wishes that this is kept within the family. They appreciate everyone's messages of love and concern, but they would be grateful if this remains a private affair. Thank you," the statement added.
Peque is is the director behind the 1982 movie "Oro, Plata, Mata". He also directed the films "Scorpio Nights," "Unfaithful Wife," "Baby Love," "Magic Temple," and some episodes of "Shake, Rattle and Roll."
