Global K-pop sensation BTS, music icon Lady Gaga, and former US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are slated to give commencement speeches at YouTube’s virtual graduation ceremony called “Dear Class of 2020.”
According to entertainment news site Variety , the YouTube original that will “feature talks on traditional graduation-day themes mixed in with music performances,” will premiere on June 6, Saturday, at the YouTube Originals channel and YouTube’s Learn@Home site. With this said, BTS, among others, is also reported to be performing at the virtual after-party.
Aside from the Obamas, BTS and Lady Gaga, other commencement speakers include former US Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.
Meanwhile, celebrities such as Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Chloe x Halle, Zendaya, and YouTube creators Jackie Aina, AsapSCIENCE, Dude Perfect, Mr. Kate, and The Try Guys will be having special appearances.
As the world got struck by the COVID-19 pandemic that halted mass gatherings, more and more schools and graduates opted to go online to celebrate their graduation rites.
