With less than a week until Mother’s Day, various media and showbiz personalities came together for a International Justice Mission’s campaign aimed at ending the online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) in the Philippines.
Dubbed #BetterThanFlowers, the campaign aims to raise two million pesos to stop the abuse of children since the current COVID-19 crisis has “created a perfect storm of conditions that are fueling demand for sexual abuse material”.
Among those who took part in the campaign were Toni Gonzaga, Solenn Heussaff, Dimples Romana, Dawn Zulueta, Mariel Padilla, Liz Uy, Denise Laurel, and Rica Peralejo.

Initially called #BetterThanFlowers, IJM decided to rename the campaign to #DontJUSTSendFlowers following protests from the floral industry for causing “inadvertent offense.”
“We are re-naming the campaign to #DontJUSTSendFlowers – it was never our intent to take away business from florists, rather highlight and advocate, in the context of Mother’s Day, the urgent need to protect children in the Philippines from OSEC. Our apologies to the floral industry for any inadvertent offense caused. Yes, we say with you, definitely do send flowers this Mother’s Day. But don’t just send flowers – send rescue, too,” IJM wrote in a post.
As of this writing, the said campaign has already raised more than 160,000 pesos.
