Ben&Ben made it to Korean airwaves thanks to Chenle of K-Pop group NCT Dream who played the indie folk group’s song “Leaves” during a radio show.
Chenle sat in as a special DJ for his fellow NCT Dream member Renjun on Yuedong Seoul Radio. As it turns out, the latter had to attend to personal matters so Chenle took over the show on his behalf.
In the middle of the program, a Filipino NCTzen named Maria asked Chenle if he could play Ben&Ben's “Leaves” on the radio show.
Chenle then began talking about NCT Dream’s “Dream Show” in Manila and his regrets about not being able to go sightseeing at some of the country’s top tourist spots (at the 8:30 mark) before playing Ben&Ben’s “Leaves” (at the 12:25 mark HERE).
A YouTuber with username 月饼mooncake responded to a Filipino fan who asked why they did not upload the full song online, saying: “Unfortunately, the songs are cut out before they upload the recordings of the broadcast so only a few seconds of the song is played.”
Ben&Ben, one of the biggest OPM bands in the country right now, is composed of Paolo Benjamin Guico, Miguel Benjamin Guico, Poch Barretto, Jam Villanueva, Agnes Reoma, Patricia Lasaten, Toni Muñoz, Andrew de Pano, and Keifer Cabugao.
The nine-piece group is behind the official soundtracks of films like Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban’s Exes Baggage and Khalil Ramos and Gabbi Garcia’s LSS (Last Song Syndrome).
Meanwhile, NCT Dream, the third sub-unit of the South Korean group NCT, is composed of members Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.
The SM Entertainment-managed group is known for their hits such as “GO,” “BOOM,” “Chewing Gum,” and “We Young,” among others.
Born in Shanghai, Chenle is of Chinese descent who debuted as part of NCT Dream back in 2016.
