Actor Idris Elba says he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Actor Idris Elba said he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a Twitter post, Idris said he received his test results on Monday morning, March 16.
"This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I'm doing... No panic," the 47-year-old Idris wrote.
Despite showing no symptoms, Idris said he took the test upon finding out on Friday that he had been exposed to someone who tested positive for the disease.
"Stay positive. Don't freak out," he said in a video accompanying his Twitter post.
In the video, Idris' wife, Sabrina Dhowre, appeared beside him. According to the actor, she has not been tested for the virus, but was "doing ok."
Most popular for his roles in the television series The Wire and Luther, and the biopic film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Idris is the latest Hollywood star to announce he has the virus, just a week after Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson had contracted the disease while shooting a film in Australia.
