As one of the new additions to the cast of Ang sa Iyo ay Akin season two, actress Rita Avila said she did not think twice about accepting the role of Belen Ceñidoza in the top rated family. drama series. The 52-year-old actress admitted she was offered two roles from different networks but chose to join Ang sa Iyo ay Akin.
“Why shouldn’t I? There were two offers actually from Kapamilya and the other station tapos this offer came, so siyempre di ba, without thinking, without blinking an eye, yes. Thank you that I got the role,” she says.
Another draw for Rita was the opportunity to be reunited onscreen with veteran actress Maricel Soriano whom she had first worked with almost three decades ago. Rita credited the Diamond Star for making their working relationship always a pleasant experience.
“Palagay ko dahil magka-height kami (laughs). Abot namin ang isa’t isa. Maricel Soriano yan di ba? Pero ever since alam mo, Maricel has been very, very kind to me. Di ba sinasabing taray queen siya? Pero as a newcomer when I met her, kindness ang naramdaman ko. Sobra sobra. Tapos nung nag-guest ako sa The Maricel Drama Special (a drama anthology series and broadcast aired on ABS-CBN from 1992 to 1997), sabi niya, ‘Si Rita pala ang guest. Yes it’s true,” she shared.
As one of the newest cast members of the show’s second season, Rita said she looked forward to doing scenes with Maricel the most.
After entering showbiz more than three decades ago via the iconic teen variety show That’s Entertainment, Rita said there have been no drastic changes to how she approaches acting.
“Pag cut, cut. Noong araw, as much as possible ayoko ma-in love sa kapwa ko actor. Kaya kaibigan ko lang sila gusto. Mahirap eh. Although mabait namna sila kasi ang mga major naman na leading men ko nun ay si Jestoni (Alarcon), Gardo (Versoza) at Cesar (Montano) so I’m glad na hanggang ngayon ay magkakaibigan kami,” she shared.
When asked how she plans to spend Christmas with her husband and Ang sa Iyo ay Akin director FM Reyes, Rita gave a simple reply. “Definitely it will be the simplest Christmas and perhaps the most meaningful one for all of us,” she said.
