Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach finally addressed the rumors that she allegedly did not want Catriona Gray to win Miss Universe in 2018 because she felt threatened.

Pia addressed the said rumors in an interview with Gulf News Dubai. Pia was in Dubai recently to receive the Woman of the Year Award from Xpedition magazine and to do work for Smile Train.

The beauty queen said that she was even in Thailand in 2018 to see the pageant and celebrated when Catriona won.

"I was there in Thailand when she won. I was actually like, almost in the front row. It's so nice to see it from the audience's point of view because I've been there as a contestant, I've been there as a judge, but it was my first time to be there as an audience member where I'm literally there just to experience it," she shared.

She continued, "People would say to me before, 'She's threatened because she doesn't want another Filipina from the Philippines to win.' But once you're there, all of that goes out of the window because you just want to raise the flag. You just want Philippines to win. Everybody's so happy. How can you be the bitter one? Why would you want to ruin the party?"

She shared her realizations after her reign as Miss Universe. She shared that it dawned on her that she needed to work as twice as hard after her reign.

“The thing I wish somebody told me was that, after you win, you got to work twice as hard to stay relevant. Because the peak is the win, and then the reign. After that, usually, you’ve got to work twice as hard to keep yourself up there, to keep yourself relevant and in the public eye," she said.

Pia relayed that to do so, she continues to personally do shoots abroad and do advocacy work at the same time.

"I still do activities like this, where I get invited abroad, I wouldn’t miss this opportunity. Of course, I’m here. I want to personally be able to do the shoots, I want to do these looks, but I also want to do advocacy work. This was my dream. If you love what you do, it’s not difficult," she said.

Pia is the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown. She won the pageant in 2015 which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Meanwhile, Catriona is the fourth Filipina to win the crown after she bagged the Miss Universe title in 2018 in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand.
