Out of all the roles she has done in recent years, Sue Ramirez said that her character in her new digital film Finding Agnes departs from her usual onscreen roles.
“Most definitely. This is very, very different from all the roles that I’ve done before. Yung ibang films ko that are on Netflix mapapansin mo talaga how they differ from each other and ako as an actress I think it’s my job to talagang ipakita mo kung ano yung naiiba. Yung character ko dito as Cathy I was born and raised in Morocco so siguro I had to learn some of sa culture nila, sa language nila, kung paano ba sila. To ask around dun sa mga Pinoy na nakilala namin nung nandun kami. Malaki yung pagkakaiba. And siguro nakaka-relate ako kay Cathy dahil sobrang passionate niya. She’s the type of person who will give her all sa isang bagay. Like binigay niya talaga yung buhay niya eh sa bed and breakfast na iniwan sa kanya. Kung tutuusin, puwede siya nagtuloy ng ibang career. Pero hindi. Kasi yun yung responsibility na iniwan sa akin, I’ll continue it and with all of my heart, aalagaan ko itong iniwan sa akin dahil this is what I have to do. So I think that’s where I can relate to Cathy,” she said.
Sue said that her character has a trait that she wish she possessed more of in real life. “Si Cathy is very, very patient. I don’t think I’m the patient type. Kasi outspoken ako. Palagi kong sinasabi what’s on my mind. And my character is the type na pinipili niya words niya and I think I would like to apply that on myself rin, which I have been doing. Pero siguro yun sobrang niyang pasensyosa. Tingnan mo naman pasensya niya kay Brix. Kahit talak ng talak yung si Brix, she keeps her cool. Para siyang diplomat. Lagi lang siyang ngingiti. Positive lang siya. I tend kasi to get stuck in situations because I’m an overthinker. Siya, she’s an overthinker in a sense na ang iniisip niya kung paano niya iso-solve yung problem. Hindi siya nag-de-dwell too much on it,” she explained.
The film, which was originally written as a romantic comedy, is now a light family drama that Sue said all kinds of viewers will be able to relate to.
“Kasi right now I think lahat tayo ay lost. I think every person in the world right now is lost. Something happened just recently and the pandemic has changed everybody’s life and just like yung kuwento ni Brix, sa isang iglap nabago yung buhay niya. Ganun din. Same goes for Cathy.
“So it gives hope for people to realize na we’re lost now but it will take a small amount of time to finally get to where we want to be. I think yun yung gusto naming ibigay sa mga tao lalo na sa panahon ngayon. Yun yung gusto naming i-takeaway nila from our film is it’s okay to feel lost and it’s okay to not know where you’re going yet because eventually you will get there and just enjoy the process and makilala mo yung mga taong dapat mong makilala, mapupuntahan mo yung mga lugar na dapat mong puntahan.
“Pero dapat sabayan mo yun. Ikaw mismo you have to be willing to go with it. You have to be willing to go where life wants to take you. Because pag hinarangan mo yun ng hinarangan, wala kang pag-usad. Walang pag-usad na magaganap sa buhay mo,” she said.
Finding Agnes is now available on Netflix.
