It’s official! Minzy of South Korean girl group 2NE1 has signed with VIVA Artists Agency — marking the beginning of her solo career in the Philippines.

VIVA wrote: “MABUHAY, Minzy! We are happy to announce that Korean star, Minzy, is the newest addition to our growing roster of talented artists! Welcome to VIVA, Minzy!”

Minzy’s career in the Philippines will be co-managed by VIVA, Open Door Artist Management, and the company she founded herself, MZ Entertainment.

Kicking off her debut in the Philippines is the upcoming release of a Tagalog version of her song “Lovely,” which she first released in South Korea last May.

In an Instagram post, Minzy said she would make sure that she lives up to the expectations of her fans in the Philippines.

“It highly evaluated the value of Kong Minzy and revealed its expectation by saying “Kong Minzy is a K-pop artist who created a global sensation with multi-platinum record starting from Korea. We will show her music not only in the Philippines but also in the whole world”,” she said.

She added: “Kong Minzy said that she would show her talent in music and many different fields through this collaboration, which raised her fans’ expectations. Also, Kong Minzy said that she would begin her musical activities in the Philippines by releasing the Tagalog-version ‘LOVELY’ in the middle of November.”

The buzz about Minzy’s plans to pursue a solo career first started in 2019 when she met with DJ-record producer and actor Guji Lorenzana who founded also founded the artist management team called Open Door Management.

Guji shared a photo of him with Minzy during the said meeting and expressed his excitement to work with the K-Pop singer.

The singer-producer wrote: “A great time for my management company and the artists of Open Door. Already finished a song with @llama_ajol and @travisatreo! And now a possible music project for @mingkki21! She’s such the sweetest person! Amazing meeting with the new team last night!”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Minzy’s inevitable visit to Manila might not happen anytime soon. But Minzy is set to talk more about her career plans at a virtual press conference with the local entertainment press happening next week.

Meanwhile, the Tagalog version of her song “Lovely” will be out on digital streaming platforms this November 20.

Born Gong Min-ji, Minzy rose to fame after debuting as part of the K-Pop group in 2009. The girl group has released numerous hits including “I Don’t Care,” “Fire,” and “I Am The Best.”

It was in 2016 when Minzy decided to leave YG Entertainment. A year after her departure from YG, she released her first solo EP Minzy Work 01: Uno.

She then signed with record label Music Works that same year but eventually left in April 2020 following months of legal dispute.
