After announcing earlier this month that the original F4 cast members from the Taiwanese hit series Meteor Garden were reuniting onstage this year, fans of the hugely popular 2001 television series eagerly anticipated their performance which took place at the Jiangsu TV 1001 Night Festival last October 30.

Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Vanness Wu, and Ken Chu, all reached heartthrob status after playing the role of Dao Ming Su, Hua Ze Lei, Mei Zuo, and Xi Men respectively and became collectively known as the Taiwanese boy band F4 even after the series ended. The actor-singers also released their debut album Meteor Rain in 2001 followed by Fantasy 4ever in 2002 and their final album Waiting For You in 2007. Their last public appearance together was in 2013 during the Jiangsu TV’s Spring Festival special.

Last Friday, they performed two of their most popular songs from the series, Meteor Rain and Di Yi Shi Jian. Even though the TV station had promoted the event as a much awaited reunion show, it was actually only Vanness Wu who was physically present at the event, while the other three members can be seen as holographic images singing alongside him.

Netizens had mixed reactions after a photo one of the audience members posted a photo which revealed the truth that Jerry, Vic, and Ken were seen as CGI while Vanness was physically present at the venue.
