Daniel Padilla recalls traffic altercation with tricycle driver: ‘Gusto ko lang na mag-sorry siya’

After getting in minor accident with a tricycle while driving his sports car along Fairview last August, Daniel Padilla said that he never intended to ask for payment for damages from the driver who caused the collision.

“Nung nabangga ako parang siyempre una ‘oh my God,’ ang unang nasa isip ko lang nun, sana hindi nabasag yung ilaw. Kasi ang hirap maghanap ng 1970 na ilaw nung kotse. Pero nung hindi naman, siyempre andun na rin yung, ‘Pare, anong ibabayad sa ‘yo nun?’ Wala naman eh. Wala naman silang maibibigay sa ‘yo tapos makikipag-away pa ako dun, magmumukha pa akong tanga dun. Para sa akin, kapag nagwala-wala pa ako, mukha akong gago sa kanila. Hindi naman ako ganun eh. Ayoko ng ganun. So ganun na lang, gusto ko lang na mag-sorry siya sa ginawa niya,” he recalled during the Apollo: A Daniel Padilla Digital Experience digital concert presscon. 


The 25-year-old singer said what was seen in the viral photos and videos of him talking calmly to the driver and reportedly even handing him money was because he wanted a peaceful resolution to the incident. “Kasi maraming mga driver na kapag nagkamali, mag-ri-reason out pa, magrarason pa ng kung anu-ano. Yung sa akin ko lang, aminin mo na mali ka, humingi ka ng paumanhin sa akin, okay na ako. Which yung driver na yun hindi pa niya ginagawa. Gusto pa niya ako sisihin sa nangyari. Pero eventually nag-sorry na rin siya so okay na ako dun sa ganun dahil it happens man. It’s inevitable. It happens,” he added.

Although he admitted he is aware of what people’s opinions are of how he handled the situation, DJ said it is not because he has a surplus of savings. “Eh sinasabi ng ibang tao, ‘May pera ka lang kasi kaya ganun.’ Eh check nila kung pinaayos ko na yung kotse ko. Hindi ko pa rin naman ipinapaayos dahil mahal. Pero wala ka namang magagawa eh. Ano ng magagawa ko?” he explained.
