As part of #ShowtimeOctoberTreats, the candidates of Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines 2020 joined in on the fun of the Showtime Online U family. For the entire week, the 24 candidates braved the Q & A kulitan. Not to be outdone, the reigning Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines Jonathan Chantong and Nina Tay Lee, also dropped by last Saturday, October 3. They were joined by first runners-up Jeremiah Tomas and Philene Young, and second runners-up Stephen Lim and Lorraine Cho.
Despite the pandemic, the annual pageant still pushed through. According to pageant director Mikko Araneta, this year’s Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines is more of a movement rather than a traditional pageant. The organizers quickly reinvented tha pageant’s its direction and prepared to own the online space. In fact, they were able to garner almost a million reactions to the reveal photos of the contestants prior to the official launch. With the MMCP’s activities switch to an online platform, the candidates were no longer bound by geographical location. A good number of the candidates are currently abroad, letting their voices be heard across the miles.
This year’s theme is RISE: rebuild, inspire, strengthen, and empower. Its youth ambassadors choose to rise to the challenge of the times, and are determined to show everyone that they can adapt and thrive even in difficult circumstances.
The prestigious Chinoy pageant kicked off with a live Digital Press Presentation last September 27, shown live on the MMCP Facebook Page and on YouTube channel ChinoyTV. Host Janeena Chan led the candidates in their first challenge: Confidence. In the live Q&A, the candidates answered questions posed by members of the press. At the end of the event, Cassandra Chan and Beef Co were hailed the Darlings of the Press, while Alexi Enriquez, Julianne Yap, and Don Tang made up the Winners Circle’s Choice.
Challenge #2 is on Creativity. The first part was an Instagram photo challenge where they had to showcase an item that is reminiscent of their Chinoy heritage. The second part, which will be a Tiktok challenge, is set for October 7. Challenge #3 is yet to be revealed, but it will definitely have something to do with culture.
These 24 young men and women are set to change the world. They encourage everyone to #RISEwithMMCP by responding to the different challenges given. Be part of the Coronation Night on October 18, 2020, live on the Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live. See who will finally bear the title of Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines 2020!
