Even with the rising concern regarding media censorship after the signing of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 (also known as the Republic Act No. 11479) last July, veteran scriptwriter Ricky Lee said local writers should not view this new law with fear. During the media launch for the documentary series based on his scriptwriting book Trip to Quiapo, Ricky candidly shared some words of wisdom for his fellow writers.

O walang gaanong sinabing malalim. Mas madaming sinabing malalim ang isa. So maraming paraan. Allegories or fairytales or fantasy, comedy, maraming paraan ng pagkukuwento.

The Trip to Quiapo author said writers should never hesitate to share their own truth. Eh that’s part of the risk that you have to take if you want to tell stories, especially pag tungkol sa katotohanan. So yes it affects us but it should not affect us to the point that it silences us. I think it is more reason why we should tell stories,” he added.

Another important lesson Ricky shared during the recent mediacon was another vital tool to become an effective writer. Yun ang lagi kong sinasabi sa kanila all throughout my workshops,” he explained.
